Aggregate 4 - 4 Tottenham Hotspur win on away goals
E. Adebayor 96'
And that is all from tonight. Keep with Goal.com for all the reaction.
What a game. 3-0 up on aggregate, back to 3-3 in normal time. Adebayor added a fourth over the tie for Spurs, and Alvarez got a goal back to make it level, but Spurs progressed on away goals. The Tottenham players could barely celebrate at full time, with Brad Friedel the only one not falling to the ground.
FULL TIME! Tottenham are through after a madcap game, and perhaps one of the worst games you could ever watch as a Tottenham fan.
120' + 3'
Cassano on the ball hurtling at the Spurs defence, but he overruns it, Vertonghen clears, and SPURS ARE THROUGH!
120' + 2'
Anywhere will do for Spurs at the moment who are looking to find the other end of the pitch whenever they get near the ball.
120' + 1'
Into two minutes of stoppage time...
In deep from Cassano, and Ranocchia heads over from six yards out, a great chance and perhaps Inter's last.
Corner for Inter, Handanovic up for it...
Gallas gets caught out, but he's lucky the player tracking back to cover is Kyle Walker, who easily beats Cassano for pace after two hours of football on the night.
Scott Parker is angry with the linesman, who gives a goal kick when he believed he had earned a corner. Inter fling it long, but Spurs deal with it yet again.
Corner for Inter. The sub Ranocchia gets up to head it but his effort flies comfortably wide.
Yellow CardEmmanuel Adebayor
Adebayor picks up a booking of his own as he kicks out at Gargano in the corner.
Yellow CardJuan Jesus
Juan follows through on Adebayor and picks up a booking down near the corner. Spurs doing well to count down the clock at the moment.
Sigurdsson earns a free kick down the left and Spurs will be sure to waste some valuable time here.
This must be hell on earth for Spurs fans, but what an entertaining game. Nine minutes to play and the away side will be holding on for dear life.
GOAL! Alvarez heads in at the far post! Cassano's cross from the left loops over, and Friedel just can't keep the header out, it was a really solid effort. Spurs are now leading on away goals.
Inter now going long in their attempts to find goals, but Tottenham with Caulker on the pitch have added height and are dealing with it well.
Underway in the second half of extra-time. 15 minutes for Inter to find two, and they almost get a first straight away! Cassan bends a shot from outside the area but Friedel reads it and flies across to his left to palm it wide. Great save.
105' + 6'
And that's the break. Second half to start shortly.
105' + 5'
Still in added time in the first half of extra-time, and Inter are the ones pushing, as you would expect. Gallas makes a good clearing header.
105' + 2'
We're back underway, with Dembele off the pitch, and about ready to get back on the pitch, with plenty of products on his head.
After the ball was cleared initially, it came back in and Palacio gets a header in, with his elbow catching Dembele on the head. The Belgium international is down receiving treatment, and it looks rather serious.
Inter have a corner...
It's all gone a bit quiet from the home fans as well, with the Inter players beginning to show a bit of their frustration.
The Tottenham fans are putting in a particularly loud rendition of "When the Spurs go marching in", and it looks like they may have their reward.
GOAL! Away goal for Spurs, and that could be crucial. Dembele goes on a great run, he's not closed down and he gets a good low shot in. Handanovic knocks it out, but only in front of goal, and Adebayor is on hand to fling himself at the ball and knock it into an empty net. What an important moment in the tie. Inter need two to go through!
It would be fair to say that William Gallas is not having the greatest game out there tonight. The defender is completely free from a corner and proceeds to head wide from six yards. An absolute sitter for the French defender.
Vertonghen forces a great save from Handanovic at a corner, the keeper shovelling the Spurs centre-back's header wide.
We are back underway in extra-time.
90' + 3'
FULL TIME! And extra-time beckons! Who would have seen that coming at the start of the game?
90' + 2'
William Gallas, you are so lucky. He slides in to clear the ball but gives it straight to Cambiasso on the edge of the box. The defensive midfielder drags his shot inches wide of the far post. So close!
90' + 1'
Into stoppage time and Lennon is trying to cause some problems for "old-man" Zanetti on the right flank, but the defender does well to win the ball.
Cambiasso is down at the moment, it doesn't look like cramp either. He's getting up to carry on though.
Cassano is back on the pitch again after receiving treatment, and Inter are back attacking, with Alvarez's shot deflected and Friedel doing well to gather it in.
Now this is an odd stoppage in play. Cassano has gone down after being caught by the referee, who himself took an elbow in the midriff. The ref looks a bit perplexed himself.
From the corner, the ball falls to Lennon, and his ball across the six-yard box is eventually gathered by Handanovic.
What a shot from Kyle Naughton! The left-back cuts in on his right foot before walloping an effort at goal that Handanovic just manages to push wide. A decent stop, that.
Corner for Inter, but a looping header drops for Brad Friedel.
Aaron Lennon with a crucial intervention there. Palacio brings the ball down with his chest but before he can get another touch on it, the winger is in to get a touch on it and Friedel collects.
Spurs try to bundle their way through the Inter backline with Dembele, Holtby and Adebayor all trying to get through, but the Italians hold strong.
Yellow CardLewis Holtby
Yellow CardKyle Walker
What looks like a nailed-on free kick to Spurs on the edge of Inter's box is given the other way, with the referee saying Kyle Walker has dived.
Own GoalWilliam Gallas
GOAL! Cassano's free kick takes a deflection off of Dembele in the wall before Gallas flings a leg out at the ball. It's heading wide, but Gallas' intervention sends it into the corner! We are level on aggregate!
Free kick 20 yards out. Silly push by Kyle Walker on the edge of the box, with Cassano likely to take.
Great work from Holtby to turn his man on the wing, but his cross is deflected and Handanovic collects.
Heavyweight substitution - Aaron Lennon is on for Jake Livermore, with the winger heading to the right flank and Holtby in behind Adebayor.
Chivu gets up the wing and to the line, before cutting in and getting a shot off, but it is straight at Friedel.
Inter are now pressing for a third, with Spurs setting up to hit them on the counterattack as the tie enters the closing stages. There are 23 minutes of action remaining, assuming there is no extra-time.
Palacio tries to pull a ball across to the far post from the right, but Friedel is out to collapse on the ball before it can get close to Cassano.
An update from Jay Jaffa at San Siro: "The nerves are jangling in Milan. The Spurs fans to my right are quiet as can be as the horror of a gigantic cock-up looms. Inter are great value for their 2-0 lead and with the first half penalty shout could really be level by now. Andre Villas-Boas has changed things up by introducing Lewis Holtby for the dire Jermain Defoe, though he may still feel hard done by given Emmanuel Adebayor is still on the pitch. One more goal for the hosts will take this to extra time and if I had to guess right now, I'm digging in for the extra 30 minutes."
Cassano whips it in, but Cambiasso's header flies over.
Palacio goes down under a challenge from Vertonghen. The centre-back looked to get a touch on the ball, but a foul is given around 30 yards from goal.
Holtby has been involved but looks like he is just struggling to get used to the pace of the game so far.
Lewis Holtby is on to replace Jermain Defoe. So Villas-Boas finally changes his system, but is it too late?
Spurs get towards the Inter box again, with Dembele crossing for Adebayor, but again there is an Inter defender there to clear.
GOAL! What a game we have now! Palacio is played in delightfully by Esteban Cambiasso, and rolls the ball past Friedel into the bottom corner. 40 minutes left for the Italians to grab two more.
Tottenham break out from the back with Vertonghen, who feeds Adebayor on the left. The striker does really well to beat his man and fire in a cross, but the Belgium centre-back cannot get a touch on the cross.
Spurs threaten to break, but after Sigurdsson finds Defoe he is taken out - unseen by the referee, and the striker is crowded out.
Adebayor goes up to control a long free kick but handles it. Not been a great evening for him so far.
Spurs belatedly get us underway.
Inter are already out for the second half, but we are waiting on Spurs who have taken that time-wasting thing from the first half a little to heart, it seems.
What a game-changer that could have been. A goal there from Adebayor surely would have sealed the tie, but as it is, Inter will go into the break the happier side with their first 45 minutes, but with lots still to do.
45' + 2'
What a chance! Adebayor muddles through the Inter defence and elects to try and chip Handanovic, but sees his effort drift over. And that's half-time!
45' + 1'
Guarin springs the offside trap, steps inside Walker on the left and fires a shot at Walker, but it doesn't beat the American.
Defoe looks to evade a tackle on the edge of the box, but it never comes in and he looks a little silly as he falls to the floor.
Yellow CardBrad Friedel
Brad Friedel is booked the second player to be booked for wasting time, this time for a goal kick. The referee receives what could comfortably be described as a "death-stare" from Andre Villas-Boas.
Tottenham have looked more solid in the past five or 10 minutes, shutting the game down pretty well and playing it at their tempo.
Spurs have a corner, but Handanovic comes and punches clear.
Sigurdsson whips in a free kick from deep on the right flank and Walker gets on the end of it but can't direct his header goalwards.
Defoe gets to the byeline and crosses in low, but Adebayor is static and does not get to the ball.
Tottenham are controlling the possession at the moment, but not really doing much with it.
Spurs keeping a high line, not marking very well and not putting enough pressure on the midfield at the moment. They look likely to concede more goals if they carry on like this, and Handanovic hasn't been too troubled yet, the Sigurdsson shot aside.
Tottenham looking under stress at the moment, putting too much on passes back to the keeper, not getting their game going. Perhaps the two strikers approach is proving troublesome for them.
PALACIO HITS THE BAR! Cassano has aeons of time to pick out Palacio running in behind the defence, and is looping effort has Friedel rooted to the spot, but it bounces on top of the bar and over.
Spurs manage to create an opportunity after some work in and around the box, but after Adebayor flicks the ball up for himself, he volleys wildly over.
Tottenham's high-line is a talking point at the moment, with our man at the ground Jay Jaffa stating that it is scarily high at the moment. Inter have been getting a lot of joy in the space behind them so far this evening.
Sigurdsson bends an effort at goal from a central area, looking for Handanovic's left-hand corner, but the keeper springs away well to palm the effort to safety.
GOAL! A good move from Inter sees the ball go down the right side to Palacio, who picks out an unmarked Cassano at the far post to head past Friedel. Simple stuff to unlock the Spurs defence, who somehow found themselves in a two-on-one situation in the centre.
Penalty shout for Inter! Gallas gets his positioning all sorts of wrong, allowing Cassano to turn a long ball and follow it into the area. After getting goal-side of the defender, Cassano went down very softly, and the referee was having none of it.
Yellow CardJake Livermore
Jake Livermore picks up a silly booking for wasting time in just the 14th minute.
Tottenham again caught on the break by Cassano, who gets a shot away this time from the right side of the penalty area, but it is low and straight at Friedel.
Inter clear the corner, but Spurs keep it and Sigurdsson's cross just evades Jan Vertonghen, who scored twice against Liverpool on Sunday.
Jermain Defoe's first real involvement. Adebayor finds him left of centre, 25 yards out, and he cuts in on his right foot to send in a vicious shot, but it is blocked behind for a corner.
Cassano again tries to spring the offside trap, this time down the centre, but he is at least four yards foul of the line, with Spurs moving up well at the back.
Inter break through Cassano down the left flank this time, but he lacks support and loses out to Kyle Walker.
Adebayor sets off running and beats one defender, but is eventually tied up by a combination of players and loses the ball.
Guarin threatens to get in on goal, but Vertonghen is there to cut out the danger.
Cassano has the ball on the right flank, but dithers on the ball and his cross is deflected and trickles to Friedel.
Tottenham have had pretty much all of the ball so far, keeping it in the opposition half. Inter almost got in, but the long ball from the back rolled through to Brad Friedel simply.
Spurs have an early free kick from wide on the left but it is cleared easily enough by the Inter defence.
Inter get us underway.
I've got to say, the San Siro looks very empty tonight. Perhaps the Inter fans aren't confident that their team will turn over a three-goal deficit.
The teams are out on the pitch, and we are under five minutes away from kick off.
So as we all know, no Gareth Bale tonight, who is suspended. But with a 3-0 lead, Tottenham hold all the cards going into this second leg. It is sure to be an interesting encounter.
And next up is Tottenham: Friedel; Walker, Gallas, Vertonghen, Naughton; Livermore, Parker, Dembele, Sigurdsson; Adebayor, Defoe. Subs: Lloris, Huddlestone, Lennon, Holtby, Assou-Ekotto, Caulker, Carroll.
Here is tonight's team news; first up, Inter: Handanovic; Jonathan, Juan Jesus, Chivu, Zanetti; Kovacic, Cambiasso, Gargano, Guarin; Cassano, Palacio. Subs: Belec, Alvarez, Ranocchia, Benassi, Pasa, Colombi, Belloni.
Good evening, and welcome to Goal.com's LIVE coverage of Inter v Tottenham at San Siro!
