Forced into a number of top-class saves to keep out the visitors in the opening period. Rarely troubled in the second half, which will make the winning goal even more difficult to stomach as he let the ball between his legs.
A tireless display as he continued to get up and down the flank in the 85th minute, making it look like the 5th. He was denied a goal on a couple of occasions, but his persistence on the flank was definitely to be admired.
Sensible and composed in the middle of the defense, he proved a calming influence on Inter's other two center backs.
Gave Nica a difficult time down the flank but seemed a little less reluctant to get forward than Jonathan on the opposite side. Defensively sound but taken off for Nagatomo as Inter went for the jugular.
Rarely troubled but found Denis a handful at times and struggled to match his agility in the air more often than not.
Will not want to see replays of Atalanta's opening goal as his poor defensive header set up the counterattack. Was sacrificed late as Inter went in search for a late winner.
Sat deep and let his midfield partners work their magic. Didn't need to get forward and provided a sturdy platform from which Inter was able to launch their attacks.
His partnership with Guarin looks set to blossom in Serie A as the pair constantly linked up with each other to terrorize the Atalanta defense. However, almost let his frustration get the better of him with a couple of poor challenges late.
One of his most potent displays in an Inter jersey; the only thing that was missing was a goal. That wasn't for the lack of trying, though - constantly testing the Atalanta keeper and even clipping the bar with a thunderous drive.
Was given chances to prey upon the defense all day and came out with mixed fortunes. Took his goal well but missed a couple of sitters too.
Came inches away from re-enacting his impressive looping header against Torino as the post denied him. Got in the right areas but often the final ball to him wasn't quite up to scratch.
Made a string of impressive stops in the second period to keep Inter out. Had to rely on the woodwork to get him out of trouble on several occasions, though.
Booked for bringing down Icardi in full flight during the first half. Wasn't given the easiest time on the flank and was eventually whipped off as Colantuono sensed his side had an Achilles heel.
Strong in the challenge as ever. Made life very uncomfortable for Icardi and Palacio, picking up a booking for going through the back of the latter.
The former Milan man gave a solid display in his return to the San Siro. Was given a clattering in the first period but recovered and limited the danger posed by Inter's attacking duo with some well-timed interceptions.
C. Del Grosso
Delivered cross after cross from the left-hand flank in the opening period as he showed a tremendous desire to get forward. Was forced to focus on his defensive role in the second period as the hosts laid siege to the Atalanta goal.
Lively in the first half as Atalanta decided to go toe-to-toe with its hosts in the attacking stakes. Didn't see as much of the ball in the second period though but still created chances, most notably for Brienza.
Booked for a cynical challenge in the first half. Struggled to keep the likes of Guarin and Hernanes at bay as the home side enjoyed the vast majority of play, especially in the second period.
Sensational. Picked out Denis with a couple of crosses which caused the Inter defense problems and stunned the home crowd with a well-taken strike for the opening goal. Silenced San Siro once more with his neat header.
Furious with Hernanes for a nasty challenge in the second half. Switched sides after the break in what looked to be an attempt to shore up the midfield and give Inter's midfield less room, which he did well.
Started brightly. The Argentine played a key role in Atalanta's opener, holding up play well and waiting for support to come in the form of Bonaventura. His afternoon ended prematurely as he was forced off because of an injury.
Posed a constant threat to Inter's back three, making his presence felt as they struggled to deal with his height and strength. Went close to opening the scoring with a header that clipped Handanovic's crossbar.
Provided Inter with a genuine option down the left to match what Joanthan had offered on the right. Never got his delivery right, though, despite making it into all the right areas.
Looked dangerous with the ball at his feet but the execution of his passing left a lot to be desired.
