Rose well to set up Chester's early opener, and put in two superb challenges close to half-time to raise the noise levels at the KC. Hit the bar in the second half with a header as he dominated in the air. Booked late on.
The left-back looked uncomfortable up against Januzaj, picking up a caution as he tried to match the youngster's speed, which resulted in Smallings opener. He allowed Young in far too easily for United's third, and had a shocker in general.
The centre-back stood up well to the challenge of United and could have given the home side the lead again in the second half, but didn't connect well enough with a header.
Held his position well in the centre without really unlocking the United back line, but struggled as the game wore on.
The central midfielder was composed as usual on the ball but couldn't quite find his range with long passes.
The midfielder put himself about well in the opening stages and scored a fortuitous second for the Tigers. Tracked Valencia well down the wing, but was replaced at half-time.
Ahmed El Mohamady
Got down the right well to force a corner that led to Chester's opener, and drew a booking from Januzaj.
The striker was quiet in the first half save for a deflected effort which went close five minutes from the interval.
The forward held up the ball well in advanced positions to unsettle Evans and Smalling, and tested De Gea with a fierce drive early in the second half.
David de Gea
The Spaniard could do nothing about either Hull goal, with Evans deflecting the second past him. Came out for a ball that was never his late on and almost cost United, but made a superb stop to deny Bruce late on.
The wing back didn't get off to the best of starts, and picked up a groin strain forcing him off for Januzaj early on.
Looked lost early on but rose well to head United's opener and restore the belief.

The winger put in a few teasing crosses from the left but couldn't work a shooting position to keep up his recent goalscoring form. Switched to the right and was far better, finding space past Figueroa to force Chester's own goal.
The Eduadorian was forced to right back after Rafael's injury, but was disciplined defensively - save for his comical booking - and still got forward well to support Januzaj. Send off stupidly late on for booting the ball away.

The striker put in a great cross for Smalling to head home and then scored a stunning volley to level the game at 2-2, while his presence unnerved Chester for the defender's own goal. Whenever the going gets tough for United this season, Rooney stands up to be counted.
Came on early for the injured Rafael and immediately made a difference, winning the set piece for Smalling's goal and bamboozling Figueroa into a booking. Cautioned for a rash challenge.
The striker looked desperate to impress from the bench but wasted the ball on numerous occasions to the frustration of his teammates.
