Houston Dynamo 2-2 New York Red Bulls: Duvall handball ruins Wright-Phillips double

The Golden Boot leader picked up two more but a late penalty saw the Red Bulls leave Houston with just a point.

The New York Red Bulls were on the back of a win thanks to the league's most in-form striker, but a late penalty saw the Houston Dynamo earn a 2-2 draw at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Giles Barnes got Houston on the board in under 40 seconds, ending a five-game, 480-minute scoreless run for the men in orange. Kofi Sarkodie was almost at the sideline when he launched his cross into the middle, and Barnes was best-placed to jump and head home.

New York equalized in the 14th minute. A long Eric Alexander ball was shot first-time by Major League Soccer's leading scorer, Bradley Wright-Phillips. The Englishman let the ball drop and bounce as he held of Eric Brunner, and lashed his effort in from just inside the penalty area.

Wright-Phillips picked up his second of the game - and league-leading 14th on the year - well into the second half. Ambroise Oyongo turned Andrew Driver inside out on the left wing, leaving the Dynamo player chasing shadows as Oyongo pinged his cross into the middle of the penalty area, where Wright-Phillips' towering leap connected his head with the ball and sent it into the goal in the 72nd minute.

A late penalty saw Houston snap its losing streak, which had threatened to spill into a sixth straight match. Chris Duvall was whistled for handling a ball inside the area and Brad Davis dispatched from the spot.
