Houston hosted visitors at BBVA Compass stadium for the first time, but a long-range goal from Brad Davis was anything but welcoming.
The men in orange will be delighted to have snapped a five game stretch without a league victory, an unenviable run reaching all the way back to March 17.
Houston was wasteful early on, with D.C. keeper Bill Hamid well in command of his area and Bobby Boswell and Je-Vaughn Watson putting excellent chances over the bar. D.C. too, could be accused of profligacy with Maicon Santos shooting wide after doing well to create space.
Despite the predictable nature of the decider, with Houston's key offensive player stepping up on a big occasion, there was nothing ordinary about Davis' 67th minute winner, a swerving shot from 25 yards out. Hamid was able to get a hand on it, but the shot had enough power to continue its trajectory and give the Dynamo a milestone win.
