Houston couldn't grab all three points, but it did come away with another record from its scintillating run of form at home.
The first chance of the night came when Atiba Harris connected with a corner kick, but his shot went high. Near the 30th minute, Houston increased the pressure as Will Bruin passed the ball into the box, where Brad Davis' shot was straight into Clint Irwin’s arms.
The Rapids pace picked up towards the end of the first half. Harris was taken down by Tally Hall in the box, and Kofi Sarkodie made an impressive save on Danny Mwanga's subsequent shot, heading the ball out of play.
The visitors would take the lead in first half stoppage time. Dillon Powers took a corner kick, setting up Drew Moor to head home, giving the Rapids a 1-0 advantage.
Early in the second half, another Rapids injury occurred when Hendry Thomas was stretchered off with a hurt left hamstring. Former Dynamo Nathan Sturgis took his place in the midfield.
The Dynamo attempted to tie it up in the 55th minute when Davis crashed a header Irwin’s way, but the rookie goalkeeper added to his list of spectacular saves.
The equalizer came when Giles Barnes scored his third goal of the season. The Englishman crushed a shot past Moor and Irwin to tie it up 1-1 in the 66th minute.
The match ended right after Davis was handed a straight red card for a messy tackle against former teammate Sturgis.
