Made a terrible clearance on 36 minutes and didn't always look assured. Never was punished for his mistakes, but might have been on another day.
Too slow to the ball - was often beaten by Mueller, and struggled in possession. Was replaced by Ibertsberger on the day, and might soon find himself out of a starting role.
Was a bit loose in his passing, and nearly cost his team a goal in the first half, but transitioned Hoffenheim into attack with skill, and played in some great crosses. Made a great run into the box to shoot on goal, and was especially quick to the ball: he won an impressive eight of his eleven 50-50 challenges.
Beaten by Olic to the header that preceded Van Buyten's winner. Not the greatest game for the Ghanaian defender, who was in tremendous form for the first three weeks, but has since cooled down.
The better of the two center halves, he made no mistakes at the back throughout the match, and kept Klose quiet.
A surprise selection from the start, the young midfielder provided a wealth of quality both in attack and defense. Was one of the few Hoffenheim players who looked capable moving forward, and tested Butt with a decent effort in the second half.
Will be remembered for his brilliant free kick off the inside of the post, but had little impact thereafter. Barely touched the ball for most of the match.
Posed a strong figure in front of the back four. Rarely possessed the ball, but broke up play tremendously well. Because of his solid play, Bayern could do very little around the edge of the 18-yard box.
Committed a cynical foul on Ribery to earn a booking, and was very late with his challenges overall. Would have been sent off in the second half, so he was substituted as a precaution.
Scored the opener, but then went missing for 89 minutes. Completely kept under wraps by the Bayern center halves, and caused no threat after his goal.
Isolated in attack, which was a shame, because he looked quite good when he got the ball. Took down a long ball with exquisite skill before setting up Beck in the first half, but otherwise was utterly anonymous.
Could do nothing about the goal, and was otherwise barely tested. Saved the two shots that came in, and positioned himself well, but had very little to do against a Hoffenheim attack that was absolutely stymied.
Like Van Buyten, a rock at the back. Won all but one of his challenges, and kept Ibisevic in check for 89 minutes. Less flashy than his defensive partner, but absolutely solid.
Made a terrible mistake that led to the opener. Linked well with Ribery, but was ultimately sacrificed at the half.
D. Van Buyten
Had been in poor form entering the day, but had his best performance in ages. The Belgian did well to knock Vukcevic off balance as the young attacker looked like scoring, and made a couple timely challenges. Struck with the eye of a poacher with a late, late winner.
Never troubled at the back, the right full-back linked well with Mueller on the flank and added some good attacking quality. Played some fine balls into the box, although he really had no-one to play them to.
Had a great chance early, but passed to the offside Klose. Barely got involved, and was withdrawn at half-time.
M. van Bommel
Played his role of secondary distributor and midfield enforcer with skill, but nearly lost his head at the end. Was lucky not to have been sent off for a terrible foul.
Hasn't looked himself as of late. Was active as always, but lacked the decisive factor that made him so important at the World Cup. Missed a free header early, another good chance on 72 minutes, and gave the ball away cheaply on more than one occasion.
Probably the most dangerous player on the pitch, though he was fouled every time he looked like creating something. Catalysed Mueller's goal with a great shot, but paid for it as he landed awkwardly and had to go off early.
Off form. Uncharacteristically offside when Kroos played him in early, and missed a glorious chance to win the game on 85 minutes. Had very little impact.
In the right place at the right time to score the equalizer. Linked well with Lahm on the right flank and looked bright on occasion, though chances came at a premium. Is good enough to be Bayern's center forward.
- 30 J. Grahl
- 8 C. Eichner
Replaced Compper and was not tested often, so it's difficult to rate him against the starter. Looked good in a limited outing.
- 11 G. Sigurðsson
Replaced Weis at the half and was a threat early on. Looked like securing three points, but had his shot agonizingly trickled just wide in the 58th minute. Did little afterward.
Replaced Ba for the final minutes and played a primarily defensive role though in a position that was technically forward. Had too little time to impact the game.
- 18 P. Tagoe
- 35 T. Kraft
- 6 M. Demichelis
Replaced Ribery and offered a very different quality, but deputized rather well. Would have played Olic through on goal if not for a questionable offside call.
Only had a half to prove his worth, but played very well in limited time. Injected a sense of urgency into the Bayern attack, and delivered a couple brilliant crosses, at least one of which should have been put away for a goal.
- 44 A. Tymoshchuk
Had a poor first touch and never looked like scoring, but with Pranjic, added a different dimension to the Bayern attack that just doesn't exist without him. His entire style opposes Van Gaal's philosophy, yet Olic seems to be an integral member of this Bayern team. Played an integral role in the winner as he headed on for Van Buyten.
