Full time in Madrid. Atletico Madrid go three points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table thanks to a relatively comfortable 2-0 victory over Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Diego Godin opened the scoring in the first half with a smart header over Codina and Diego Costa sealed the win in the closing stages with a close range strike, but the win has been slightly marred for Diego Simeone's men due to a nasty injury to the Brazilian. Three points in the bag, but a potentially long lay off for Costa. I'm Martin Macdonald, thanks for joining us, see you next time!
90' + 1'
Four minutes of injury time remaining here, and we've seen no signs of a miracle comeback from Getafe.
Diegooooo! Decent save from Codina! The Brazilian finds some space inside the box and drifts past the challenge of Rafa before squeezing out a shot on goal, but the attempt just lacks a little bit of pace and the Getafe keeper makes the save.
That goal has completely deflated the crowd here in Coliseum Alfonso Perez, and the fans of the home side know they are defeated. Not too much time remaining though so they don't need to suffer much longer.
Cristian Rodriguez is the man who replaces Diego Costa for the last few minutes.
Some extremely worrying scenes for Atletico Madrid here as Diego Costa has picked up a nasty, nasty injury after colliding with the post after scoring. The Brazilian has a sizeable gash on his knee and it is not quite clear to see if there's any further damage caused. He's going to have to come off, and this is not good news for Diego Simeone's outfit.
Goal Diego Costa
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLL FOR ATLETICO MADRID!! LOS COLCHONEROS SEAL THE WIN! Adrian breaks free on the right-hand side and lays the ball to the back post for Diego Costa, who slides home from close range! Two-nil!
Atletico are just looking to open up Getafe here as the hosts probe for an equaliser. Another goal now would definitely see them move three points clear of Real Madrid.
Cosmin Contra decides to go for it and the end introduces attacking midfielder, Sammir, in place of defender, Roberto Lago. They run the risk of spaces opening up at the back now, but they have to go for it.
Just over ten minutes remaining here and Getafe are going to have to start taking a few gambles if they are going to grab an equaliser. Courtois not been tested nearly as much as required.
The Getafe management want a penalty here as Ciprian goes down inside the box after a minor brush from Miranda. The hosts are pulling out every trick in the book to try and con the ref, but to be fair he's having none of it.
Yellow Card Diego Costa
Diego Costa finally cracks under the pressure and constant abuse by the Getafe players and gives one of the opposition players a push in the chest, which ofcourse means they go down to the floor. Some pretty shameful tactics by the home side tonight to wind the Brazilian up.
It's tough to see how Getafe are going to get back into this as Atletico are now using their man advantage pretty effectively. The crowd were vibrant after the penalty miss from Diego Costa, but it all looks to have fizzled out in the stands.
The Brazilian almost has the perfect start to his match as he drifts in from the right-hand side before lashing a left-footed strike at goal, but Codina gets his body behind the ball to make a solid save.
Another change from Simeone as Diego comes on for Raul Garcia.
Will that penalty save from Codina prove to be an important moment in the Spanish Primera Division title race? Atletico have the goal advantage and the man advantage, but the missed penalty looks to have buoyed Getafe here.
Getafe react quickly to that penalty save and make a positive change as Mehdi Lacen is introduced in place of Mosquera.
Penalty save Codina
Missed Penalty Diego Costa
DOUBLE SAVE FROM CODINA! The Getafe goalkeeper denies Diego Costa's penalty then quickly gets up to get his body behind Raul Garcia's rebound! Terrific goalkeeping! The score remains 1-0!
Red Card Lafita
PENALTY TO ATLETICO! Lafita hauls down Diego Costa inside the box and is given a straight red for denying a goalscoring opportunity!
Diego Simeone makes his first switch of the match as David Villa comes off to be replaced by Adrian, who was outstanding against Barcelona on Wednesday.
Mosquera loses the ball in a terrible position when Getafe had plenty of men committed in the attack. Gabi counterattacks and looks to find the run of Diego Costa in behind the defence, but any potential threat is nullified as Lago intercepts.
Diego Costa goes on a signature run through the middle as he looked to barge his way through the Getafe defence, but he ends up being outnumbered and the home side manage to clear.
Colunga almost makes an immediate impact as he gets into the box via the inside right channel before lashing a cross along the box. Courtois comes off his line to make the save at the front post, though. Promising from the substitute.
The first change of the match comes from Getafe as Diego Castro is replaced by Adrian Colunga.
SAVE BY COURTOIS!! Juan Rodriguez drifts in totally unmarked and diverts a header at goal from a cross from the right, but it is straight down the throat of the Belgian who scrambled the ball away from the line with a save from his feet!
The Getafe physio dashes on to the pitch as Arroyo comes out second best in an aerial clash with Diego Costa. The right-back looks to have been winded, and is down clutching his chest. Hopefully he'll be okay to continue.
Lafita is the latest player to go into the book as he jumps in the air with Gabi and uses his arm for leverage on the neck of the Atletico captain. Both player come out slightly worse for wear, but it is the Getafe man who's punished with a yellow.
Yellow Card Lafita
Raul Garcia gallops down the right-hand side and has plenty of space to move into. He whips a teasing cross into the box but Rafa manages to get the ball away with a sliced clearance.
The second half has started pretty much with the same formula as the opening 45 minutes. Scrappy in the middle of the park with plenty of challenges flying in!
We are back under way in this Spanish Primera Division clash!
Half time in the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. A solitary strike from Diego Godin is the difference between Getafe and Atletico Madrid at the break as the league leaders look to go three points clear of Real Madrid. A pretty tepid match so far for the most part, but it just started to heat up towards the end of the half. An interesting second period in store!
Yellow Card David Villa
There's some drama just outside the Getafe box as Alexis goes down clutching his face after an altercation with David Villa. That's absolutely embarrassing, as the former Barcelona striker goes into the book for barely touching the defender's chest with his own.
It's a rare piece of action for Ciprian Marica as the Romanian latches on to a loose ball on the edge of the Atletico box, but he fails to test Courtois as his half volley clears the bar by five or six yards. A half chance, nothing more.
Goal Diego Godín
GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLL FOR ATLETICO!! They CAN break the deadlock!! A nothing ball is floated to the back post and Codina initially comes to take but then hesitates, which allows Godin to drift in and divert the ball straight over the oncoming keeper! One-nil, but terrible goalkeeping!
Atletico are really probing for the opening goal as we just approach the break here. Can they break the deadlock before half time?
Gabi fires the ball into the feet of Raul Garcia with pace and the former Osasuna man takes an assured touch before looking to stab the ball through to Villa, who is wide open, but Lago manages to stretch out a leg to stop the attack.
Diego Costa comes deep to receive the ball to feet before spreading the play out wide to the onrushing Juanfran, but the right-back is tracked well by Diego Castro and is forced to revert back to Miranda just inside.
Ohhh pull the trigger Diego Costa! The 25-year-old initially does brilliantly to glide past Arroyo into the box, but just takes too many touches which allows the Getafe defenders to scramble the ball clear!
Atletico are just starting to emerge as the more dominant team in the middle of the park. Gabi, Mario Suarez, and Koke all ensuring that possession is retained more effectively, and it has forced Getafe further and further back towards their own goal. Codina still only tested the once so far, though.
Diego Costa will certainly have some bumps and bruises after the match tonight. The Spain international has came under some pretty rough treatment so far and Rafa is the latest player to have a pop with a really late challenge in the middle of the park.
Saaaaaaave by Codina! Koke curls in a great free kick to the edge of the six yard box and Godin rises about everyone to bullet a header at goal, but the Getafe goalkeeper has his bearings correct and ends up making a solid stop with his legs!
Diego Costa looks to shield the ball and hold up play 30 yards from goal but he ends up being scythed down by Alexis and Atletico get the free kick. A really poor challenge, and the former Valencia defender is the latest player to go into the book.
Yellow Card Alexis
Courtois probably picks the wrong moment to practice his keepy uppy skills as he receives the ball back from Godin. The Belgian ends up volleying the ball straight out for a corner under pressure from Ciprian.
Yellow Card Pedro Mosquera
Juanfran looks to send the ball up and over the Getafe defence for Diego Costa with a pass from the right-back position, but he doesn't find his target as Rafa retreats well to send it out of a throw in with a commanding header.
Things are starting to heat up on the touchline as Diego Simeone loses the rag a little. It's pretty warranted though, as the Argentine is complaining about an awful offside decision from the linesman that saw the play brought back when Diego Costa was through on goal.
Well, I don't know how Diego Castro has evaded the book. Gabi moves the play up the park from midfield, before the winger comes in with a rash swipe which catches the Atletico captain right on the heel. A poor tackle, and one definitely deserving of a yellow.
Yellow Card Diego Godín
Ciprian turns the ball round the corner before spinning to run forward, but the Romanian is taken out by Godin with a late challenge. The Uruguayan is the first player to receive a caution, and it is a deserved one.
Pedro Leon steps up and looks to whip the set-piece up and over the wall, but his attempt cannons off the two-man Atletico blockade and goes out for a corner. Decent period of pressure from Getafe at the moment.
Lafita receives the ball to feet 25 yards from goal and looks to turn sharply, but he is upended by Juanfran and the hosts get the free kick. Really good opportunity to test Courtois here.
Brilliant challenge from Arroyo! Diego Costa stretches his legs through the middle and looks to shift the ball into the box to get a sight of goal, but the Getafe right-back is having none of it and stops the attack dead with a solid tackle.
It'll be interesting to see how Atletico cope with the physical aspects of the game in the latter stages. They put so much energy into the performance against Barcelona on Wednesday that we may just see some fatigue creep in.
Gab collects a loose ball in midfield and breaks forward before looking to send a ball down the channel for Diego Costa, but Rafa is well placed to make the important interception and win possession back for Getafe.
A golden opportunity passed up by Atletico! David Villa bursts into the box with pace and teases a shot-come-cross along the six yard box, but Diego Costa just can't make up the ground to turn the ball into the net!
Slightly tentative opening at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez as both sides look to find their feet in the proceedings. Neither side has managed to assert any kind of authority on possession as of yet.
We are under way in Madrid!
However, the capital club can take heart from the fact they have avoided defeat on the last five occasions that they have welcomed Los Colchoneros to Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
Getafe will certainly be eager to atone for their previous performance against Atletico. Cosmin Contra's outfit suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat at the Vicente Calderon in November, and will surely strive to ensure a repeat does not happen tonight.
Atletico will be further buoyed by the return of Diego Costa, who appears to have shook off his hamstring injury to feature from the start. The Spain international missed the second leg against Barca midweek, but is deemed fit enough to lead the line in league duty.
Victory today for the league leaders would see them go three points clear of Real Madrid in second place, and four clear of Barcelona, who lost against Granada last night.
Atletico Madrid's fantastic season continued on Wednesday as they knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League. Diego Simeone's outfit maintain their march towards domestic and European glory, but it is back to league action today as they travel across the city to face local rivals, Getafe.
Atletico (4-4-2): Courtois; Juanfran, Godin, Miranda, Filipe Luis; Gabi, Suarez, Raul Garcia, Koke; Villa, Diego Costa.
Getafe (4-2-3-1): Codina; Arroyo, Alexis, Rafa, Roberto Lago; Juan Rodriguez, Mosquera; Pedro Lopez, Lafita, Diego Castro; Ciprian.
I'm Martin Macdonald, and it is my pleasure to take you through the action!
