The American was rarely tested by the Stoke strikers and didn't have a save to make in the first half.
Worked well alongside Jagielka in stopping Stoke attacks before they got too near to the goal. Enjoyed the battle with Tuncay and Jones and came out on top on most occasions.
Very dangerous when overlapping down the left wing from full back. Baines showed a culutred left foot with some accurate crossing but Cahill and Yakubu were unable to put the chances away
Strong and commanding at the back, dealt with Tuncay and Jones reasonably well during the first half and denying them any clear cut opportunities.
Playing on the right wing the young Irishman looked good although he lacked a bit of guile to get past Collins. Very busy throughout the match and always made himself available for a pass. Created a good opportunity for himself early in the second half but his left foot shot was lacking in power and Begovic was able to save easily. Was substituted in the 62nd minute and replaced by Saha.
Although he doesn't get all the headlines Heitinga is the midfield enforcer and his hard work enables Arteta and Pienaar to roam in front of him.
Linked up well with Arteta, Cahill and Yakubu as he made inroads down Everton's left wing. Played some very neat and creative passes as Everton dominated the midfield but were unable to take advantage.
On his return from injury the Spaniard looked very comfortable in central midfield as he controlled every Everton move. He is so relaxed on the ball and never looks rushed as he knits together defence and attack for the Toffees.
Kept Etherington reasonably quiet and looked to support Coleman down the right hand side.
Frustrated by the lack of chances that fell his way, and was kept under control by a strong Stoke defensive play. Was unlucky not to open the scoring in the 67th minute as his shot struck the post but Yakubu was able to put the ball in from the rebound.
Had very little to do despite lots of Everton attacking as his defenders were able to deny them shooting chances. His distribution wasn't fantastic which hindered his side's opportunities on the counter attack.
Alongside Whitehead he also struggled to dominate in a midfield run by Arteta. He had very little time on the ball and spent the majority of the game chasing the ball as Everton moved the ball around quickly. Was replaced by Whelan in the 77th minute.
Kept Coleman under control down the right wing in a good performance from the full back.. Looked very solid throughout but was beaten by Pienaar in the build up to Everton's goal.
A very confident display from the Stoke captain who rarely put a foot wrong when dealing with the Everton attacks. He was dominant in the air and looked very comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Was kept busy by Baines and Pienaar down the left wing and generally denied them opportunities to deliver dangerous crosses for Yakubu and Cahill.
Always looked dangerous when attacking down the left wing and the crosses he was able to get across were accurate and threatening but Stoke's strikers were unable to get on the end of them.
Was busy in midfield closing down Arteta and Heitinga but he failed to really stamp his authority on the game as the Everton pairing controlled most of the match.
Struggled to make an impact against the strong defensive pairing of Jagielka and Distin, when he was able to create an opportunity for himself he was quickly closed down. Had a fantastic chance in the first half when a mix-up between Distin and Arteta gave him a sight of goal but his volley was well wide of Howard's goal.
Linked well with Jones and Etherington but didn't really have a huge impact on the first half. He started the second half much better and was very unlucky to have a goal ruled out for a push on Baines in the 59th minute.
Struggled to get into the game playing on the right wing as opposed to his preferred central striking role. Baines was able to stop him getting past and delivering any crosses for Jones. Was replaced by Pennant in the 74th minute.
- 1 J. Mucha
- 2 T. Hibbert
Replaced Yakubu in the 85th minute and had a great chance to double Everton's lead in the third minute of injury time but his right foot volley was just wide of Begovic's goal.
- 26 J. Rodwell
Replaced Coleman in the 62nd minute, suppored Yakubu well and gave Everton much more presence up front. Struggled to find himself much space and wasn't able to get a strike on goal.
- 16 J. Beckford
- 19 M. Gueye
- 27 C. Nash
- 3 D. Higginbotham
- 28 A. Wilkinson
- 24 R. Delap
Came on for Wilson in the 77th minute but struggled to make any kind of impact.
Replaced Walters in the 74th minute and was greeted with jeers from the Everton fans due to his past at Liverpool. The winger made some good runs at the Everton defence but his delivery was poor.
