Everton - QPR Preview: David Moyes' side looks to banish fears of fourth successive loss in Premier League opener

With six defeats in its last eight opening games, the Merseyside outfit, which welcomes Mikel Arteta back to the squad, will be keen for a win over Neil Warnock's men.

Saturday’s hosts were given an extra week’s preparation for the clash with Neil Warnock’s side thanks to their match with Tottenham being postponed. During that time, Mikel Arteta has been able to prove his fitness by playing in a reserve game on Monday evening.

The Spaniard should feature, if not start, the game at Goodison Park, but Seamus Coleman misses out as his ankle injury leaves him on the sidelines for the time being, and fellow midfielder Diniyar Bilyaletdinov is suspended until the following weekend.

The visitors to Merseyside on Saturday will be without their own banned player Clint Hill and new signing Kieron Dyer. While Dyer left the pitch after just a few minutes on a stretcher in the club's 4-0 opening day home defeat to Bolton Wanderers, Hill was sent off for a headbutt on Martin Petrov.

  • Everton boss David Moyes currently resides third in the all-time list of awardees for the Premier League’s Manager of the Month prize, receiving the award a respectable eight times and sitting in between Martin O’Neill on seven and Arsene Wenger with 11. Unsurprisingly, Sir Alex Ferguson tops the list with an impressive 25 awards.
  • You have to go back to August 2007 to see the Toffees’ last win in their opening fixture in the Premier League, with a 2-1 victory over Wigan. Everton has lost against Arsenal and twice against Blackburn since. A defeat at the weekend will mean four successive opening-day losses for the first time ever.
  • The seemingly outgoing Joseph Yobo is Everton's man with the most Premier League starts in the current squad with a total of 204. Tony Hibbert will make his 250th Everton start if he is in the starting XI.
  • There have been eight Premier League meetings between these two sides, during which 35 goals have been scored, and QPR heads the wins tally with five to two victories in its favor.
  • Saturday’s match will be the first between the two sides since April 1996, when QPR took the spoils in a 3-1 victory.
  • In terms of managerial head-to-heads, Moyes leads Warnock five wins to one, whilst two games between them have been drawn.
