MLS Preview: D.C. United - Sporting Kansas City

MLS Preview: D.C. United - Sporting Kansas City

Ben Olsen's side hosts the defending champions, who arrive at the nation's capital with far less than a full-strength squad.

If there ever was a time to be facing the defending champions, this is it for D.C. United.

Sporting Kansas City will visit RFK Stadium on Saturday (7 p.m. ET, MLS Live) depleted and having just played a game on Tuesday – a 1-1 home draw with New York.

The MLS Cup champs are without Graham Zusi, Matt Besler and Lawrence Olum due to international duty, and Uri Rosell, C.J. Sapong, and Chance Myers among others with injuries. They are without a win in four MLS matches.

United, meanwhile, is mostly healthy with Sean Franklin nearly back from a foot injury, and Chris Pontius the only long-term injury concern. The Black-and-Red received a boost midweek when Eddie Johnson’s red card from the team’s loss at New England last weekend was rescinded, meaning he’ll be good to go against Sporting KC.
