MLS Preview: D.C. United - New England Revolution

MLS Preview: D.C. United - New England Revolution

Paul Fredrickson

The Revolution are in pursuit of straight road wins as they visit a United club still looking for its first victory of 2014.

Having put a slow start to 2014 in the past with a last-gasp win at San Jose last weekend, the New England Revolution will look to make it two road triumphs in a row when they face winless D.C. United on Saturday.

While Lee Nguyen's stoppage-time strike gave New England (1-2-1) that 2-1 victory over the Earthquakes, United (0-2-1) last weekend surrendered a late Quincy Amarikwa equalizer as it settled for a 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire.

With midfielder Luis Silva unlikely to start because of an ankle injury, United is set to shake up its midfield. Davy Arnaud is the top candidate to start next to Perry Kitchen in the middle, opening up a spot on the flank for Lewis Neal or possibly Chris Rolfe, who was acquired Wednesday in a trade with Chicago.

The Revolution, meanwhile, will be missing midfielder Kelyn Rowe (hamstring). But New England's free-flowing attack still offers its fair share of weapons, including 2013 holdovers Diego Fagundez, Saer Sene and Nguyen and newcomers Daigo Kobayashi and Teal Bunbury.

"They're familiar with each other," United coach Ben Olsen said. "They're one of the teams that has a lot of pieces back, so they're ahead of the game in that sense. They always interchange well and pose matchup problems all over the field because they are dynamic and they have some special attacking pieces."

Added D.C. center back Jeff Parke: "They're going to come in and they will be buzzing. They're going to try to connect as many passes and make things difficult by off-the-ball runs."
