D.C. United 4-1 FC Dallas: Espindola shines as DCU dismantles shorthanded Dallas

The striker notched a goal and an assist as United scored four answered goals following Zach Loyd's 39th-minute red card.

WASHINGTON — After waiting until August to notch its third victory in 2013, D.C. United has accomplished the feat this season before April's end.

Fabian Espindola notched two goals and an assist, defenders Bobby Boswell and Sean Franklin found net as well, and United improved to 3-2-2 with a 4-1 win over FC Dallas (5-2-1) on Saturday.

Following Zach Loyd's 39th-minute red card, it was all United. The home side in first-half stoppage time negated Mauro Diaz's opener as Eddie Johnson whipped in a cross for Espindola to nod in at the far post.

Dallas surrendered the lead in the 60th minute. After Conor Doyle saw his volley of a Jeff Parke layoff saved by Chris Seitz, it was Boswell who was there to slam home the rebound.

United doubled the advantage four minutes later, with Espindola blowing past Hendry Thomas and Je-Vaughn Watson before hitting a cross that Franklin flicked into the side netting. And Espindola completed his brace in the 69th minute, lifting a pass from Chris Rolfe up to his left foot and firing past Seitz.

The visitors struck in the 13th minute when Blas Perez flicked a pass back to Mauro Diaz, who evaded the sliding Cristian Fernandez and calmly slotted home from 12 yards.

But Dallas went down a man in the 39th minute when Loyd received a second yellow card for catching Davy Arnaud with an ugly studs-up tackle. To make matters worse, Dallas had to replace the injured Diaz with Adam Moffat six minutes later.

Dallas then went down to nine men in the game's dying moments when Michel received a straight red for apparently elbowing Rolfe in the face.

The only negative for United was the loss of Johnson to an apparent hamstring injury in the 51st minute.
