Head to Head Preview: F.C. Dallas - Colorado Rapids

Head to Head Preview: F.C. Dallas - Colorado Rapids

Friday night's showcase is a rematch of last season's MLS Cup final.

On Form

F.C. Dallas: Until Dallas gets something going in terms of wins we'll stick with the story that nobody is really on form.

Colorado Rapids: Omar Cummings and Caleb Folan proved last Sunday night that they have the combined force of an uncaring tornado, leaving opponents in shock of the severity of damage. The defending champions are successfully preparing for one game at a time; learning from each moment, and heading into this F.C. Dallas match even stronger than before.

Off Target

F.C. Dallas: The red cards have to stop. Want to know how to go from finishing second to finishing at the bottom? Spend a third of your time down a man. That's basically what the Hoops have done in their first three matches. Playing Colorado is hard enough on level terms so picking up a third red in four matches would almost certainly doom F.C. Dallas to another bad result.

Colorado Rapids: Conor Casey is out for a few weeks, courtesy of a hamstring injury. The defense suffered in the first half against DC United, trying to get some bearings on the game, but will hopefully start this game as solid as they ended Sunday night. If not, Dallas is anxious to use this match as a turning point in its rough start to the 2011 MLS season.

Tactics

F.C. Dallas:
It's been very hard to see exactly what Dallas plans to do because of the aforementioned card situation and having to adjust to being down a man so often. The first thing suggested will obviously be to not pick up cards. Dallas will play its style of soccer, knocking the ball around and trying to funnel attacks through the middle of the pitch, but keeping eleven men on the field would make that job much easier.

Colorado Rapids: The Colorado Rapids are preparing for non-stop pressure from FC Dallas.  The midfield will be key in controlling the possession, taking advantage of Cummings’ speed and Folan’s height to put the ball in the back of the net.

Intangibles

F.C. Dallas: The Friday night lights will be on for the second week running for F.C. Dallas, so there could be an advantage for the home side. Colorado not only had a short week, having played on Sunday, but will have to hit the road for Friday night's match.

Colorado Rapids: The MLS Cup was the last time these two teams met.  There is a lot of determination driving the Rapids to beat FC Dallas again. They know that to be in Dallas, as the reigning champion puts a target on their back.

Outcome

Allen Ramsey: Maybe not the best team to try and find a first win of the season against, but Dallas can certainly get a result out of Colorado. Plus, the Hoops are probably looking for a little revenge. F.C. Dallas 3-1 Colorado.

Stephanie Gardner
: The Colorado Rapids will continue their winning streak by defeating the struggling FC Dallas 2-0.
