Toronto notched a first road win of the season in a first-ever franchise win over Columbus to take the Trillium Cup.Toronto FC had never beaten the Columbus Crew or won the Trillium Cup before Saturday evening. A 4-2 away victory in Ohio put a halt to both of those disappointing runs.
Close-range goals from Nick Soolsma and Ryan Johnson paced TFC to a solid halftime lead. Tommy Heinemann halved the deficit for the Crew just a minute after coming off the bench in the second half.
Then, in the last 10 minutes, the game offered three goals. Julian de Guzman tucked home sharply from outside the box, Andres Mendoza pulled Columbus back to within one with a rasping distance shot and then Danny Koevermans sealed the game in injury time.
The result marked Toronto's first road win of the season.
