With both sides coming off of weekend losses, both will be looking to make use of the quick turnaround to reverse their fortunes. The Columbus Crew took a disheartening 3-2 loss to Toronto FC over the weekend, while Real Salt Lake took a 4-0 shelling from the Seattle Sounders.
Those two sides will be looking to use a quick turnaround and a midweek showdown against each other to get back to winning ways.
Both teams come in with some notable players missing thanks to international duty. For the Crew, Waylon Francis and Giancarlo Gonzalez are gone, with RSL missing the likes of Kyle Beckerman, Nick Rimando and Alvaro Saborio, with the Costa Rican forward out of the tournament because of a foot injury.
The missing players' absences were felt in a big way for Salt Lake against the Sounders, with Beckerman and Rimando particularly missed as the Sounders' attack ran wild through the Utah outfit.

The loss put a bit of distance between RSL and Seattle at the top of the Western Conference, and ended the club's run of 12 matches without a loss to open the season.
One win in 10 matches has Columbus out of the playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, but the team's strong start to the season and a string of draws means the Crew aren't far back. In fact, a win Wednesday would move the club level on points with Sporting Kansas City in third place.
