The Argentine converted a penalty and chipped the keeper as his team kept its dim playoff hopes alive.Federico Higuain led the Columbus Crew to a 2-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls, keeping the Crew in place for an outside shot at a playoff berth.
After an hour of scoreless play, Columbus put one in the back of the net. Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles was called for a foul on Chad Marshall, and Federico Higuain converted the penalty in the 62nd minute.
Higuain netted a second in the 76th minute, taking a pass from Will Trapp, running down the right, and chipping Robles from outside the box.
The loss ends a four-game unbeaten run for New York, and marks the end of a three-match losing skid for the Crew.
