The dynamic pair of Thierry Henry and Kenny Cooper continued their torrid start to the season, scoring two goals each, to lead the New York Red Bulls to a 4-1 away victory over the Columbus Crew. Chad Marshall scored a goal for the Crew.
The Red Bulls have gone on a three-game winning streak since Cooper got his first start alongside Henry three weeks ago. The pair have combined for 13 goals and five assists in the opening five matches of the season.
Cooper got the game rolling early when he scored a left footed shot from the center of the penalty box in the third minute. The towering striker would double his tally scoring off of a header from a corner kick by Mehdi Ballouchy in the 13th minute. Then Henry got into the act.
The legendary French forward received a through ball from Roy Miller on the left side of the box and powered his shot in on the bottom right corner of the goal in the 40th minute. The Red Bulls entered the second half with a 3-0 advantage but couldn't keep its clean sheet.
Crew captain Chad Marshall headed in a ball off of a corner in the 89 minute, beating Red Bulls defender Markus Holgersson to score. Henry was clearly furious that his team conceded a late goal and immediately responded a minute later, charging up the field and scoring from the left side of the penalty box.
New York dominated the game statistically, holding over 58 percent of possession. The Red Bulls improve to 3-2-0 while the Crew fall to 2-2-0.
