The Colorado Rapids defeated Portland Timbers 3-0 in Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Rookie Tony Cascio quickly set the tone of the game as he went head-to-head with Timbers defender Kosuke Kimura. Putting the former Rapid to the test, Cascio had the first shot on goal, but it hit the post.
Minutes later, Rapids captain Drew Moor served the ball to Cascio who quickly redirected it to Andre Akpan. The Harvard graduate confidently scored the first goal of the match.
Adding to his stats in the 28th minute, Cascio connected with a cross from Jamie Castrillon. The shot was blocked by keeper Donovan Ricketts, but Cascio found the rebound and crushed it into the net, giving the Rapids a two-goal halftime lead.
The Timbers couldn't keep themselves from the bottom of the Western Conference, and the Rapids sealed the deal in the 86the minute, as Castrillon headed the ball through Ricketts' legs. This 3-0 win allowed the Colorado Rapids to jump into seventh place in the Western Conference.
