The away side's goalkeeper was the difference on Sunday night, as he frustrated the Rapids in a scoreless draw.D.C. United earned a 0-0 draw on the road against the Colorado Rapids, and the visitors had goalkeeper Joe Willis to thank for securing the result.
With Bill Hamid away on Gold Cup duty with the USA, Willis showed why he is one of the league's top backups, making several saves in the first half. German Mara came closest for the Rapids when he crashed a header off the post.
The second half was more of the same, as United's tame offense did little to trouble Clint Irwin in the Rapids goal, and the home side continued to press for a winner. However, Willis stood tall to preserve the point for DCU.
Frustrated with a home draw against the league's bottom side, the Rapids remain just outside the Western Conference playoff positions at 7-7-6. The visitors are anything but close to a playoff spot in the East, as the draw brings United's record to 2-13-4.
