Chivas USA continued its resurgence, beating a visiting Vancouver outfit 2-1 thanks to goals from Carlos Alvarez and Eric Avila.Chivas USA beat the Vancouver Whitecaps, 2-1, on Saturday night to go second in the Western Conference with 10 points from five games.
Carlos Alvarez, the No. 2 pick in the draft, scored his second goal of the season. In the 11th minute, he thrust in-field from the left flank. His shot hit Jun Marques Davidson on the shoulder and deflected past Joe Cannon at the near post.
Half an hour into the match Juan Agudelo went off with an injury, replaced by Jose Correa.
Eric Avila scored the eventual winner 10 minutes into the second half. Jorge Villaña crossed from the left. Avila had plenty of time for it to fall to his right foot and crank a volley past Cannon, who made six saves total.
The Whitecaps pulled one back shortly after. A flowing counter attack ended up with Erik Hurtado putting a stinging shot on target. Dan Kennedy palmed the ball away, but only as far as Kenny Miller, who headed it back in for the consolation.
