Chivas USA went 14 MLS matches without a win heading into Wednesday's with Toronto, when it finally earned three points.CARSON, Calif. -- For the first time in 15 league games, Chivas USA won, beating Toronto FC 1-0 on Wednesday. The match marked the debuts of a pair of new signings, as former U.S. national team captain Carlos Bocanegra and 20-year-old Mexican international forward Erick 'Cubo' Torres both earned starts. Torres scored the game's only goal to give 10-man Chivas its first win since March 30.
Bocanegra, deployed at the left center back position, picked up his first booking 17 minutes into his debut, clamoring through Matias Laba a few yards outside the box with a sliding challenge.
The card shade took a darker hue a few minutes later, when Eric Avila slid late into Bobby Convey. Though Avila was pulling out, referee Sorin Stoica ejected him for his high challenge.
Though a man up, Toronto struggled to take control, only putting one shot on target through 80 minutes. The Goats kept creating chances on the break. Finally, one paid off nearly 10 minutes from time. Tristan Bowen found Torres, who skipped inside Gale Agbossoumonde. On his left foot, Torres shot, and the ball deflected heavily off Steven Caldwell past Joe Bendik.
