Two second-half goals decided a dour affair, meaning San Jose has still only beaten Chivas USA once since rejoining the league in 2008.
In a dour match, all the decent opportunities in the first half came from long-distance shots. Ben Zemanski made his long-range attempt count come the second half, though. The substitute uncorked from a full 35 yards, and the knuckling ball sailed into the back of the net.
As the game approached full time, Nick LaBrocca made sure of the points. Francisco “Panchito” Mendoza played a clever slicing ball which set LaBrocca free on goal. The midfielder feigned one way and calmly tapped the ball the other for his fifth goal of the season, equaling his haul from all his other professional seasons combined.
Steven Lenhart picked up the only caution of the game, a booking which will keep him out of San Jose's next match.
