Two Western Conference foes meet hoping to get some points, but each will be missing contributors. The Western Conference's bottom two teams meet Wednesday evening hoping to build some momentum and start an ascent up the table when Chivas USA welcomes the Portland Timbers (10:30 ET, MLS Live).
After winning the conference during the 2013 season, expectations were high for the Timbers, but the club is yet to reach those expectations. There has been a recent uptick, though, with the Cascadia club coming in off a 2-1 win against New York that made it five matches unbeaten.

The home side also has a small streak going that may cause a bit of optimism. The last time out the club drew with FC Dallas 1-1 and before that rocked the Colorado Rapids with a 3-1 win. The key player in that match, Marvin Chavez, is out with Honduras for World Cup preparations. The club will also be without long-term injury absences Thomas McNamara (knee) and Andrew Jean-Baptiste (sports hernia). Oswaldo Minda is suspended because of yellow card accumulation.
Portland will miss Michael Harrington (ankle) for a third consecutive match and Alvas Powell is suspended after the Disciplinary Committee extended his ban for a red card against Columbus. Additionally, coach Caleb Porter is set to rest a number of his players in the second match of a three-game stretch over the course of eight days.
