The on-loan 20-year-old striker continued his strong MLS form, netting a pair to down the Eastern Conference's second place team.
Following a spectacular save from Dan Kennedy, Chivas USA took the lead 30 minutes into the match, when Carlos Alvarez found Julio Morales at the top of the box. The on-loan Mexican cut onto his left foot and drove a shot low past Luis Robles.
The lead wouldn't last two minutes. Tim Cahill rose at the back post off a corner kick and headed home off the post, despite the ball being hacked off the line by a Chivas defender. Replays showed the ball clearly crossed the line.
Just before the half, though, Chivas would retake the lead. Ibrahim Sekagya brought down Morales in the box with a shoulder charge, and Torres stepped up to bury the ensuing penalty kick.
Torres grabbed his second and his team's third with just over 10 minutes to play. With the Red Bulls defense nowhere to be found, Alvarez saw his shot blocked off a cross from the left, and Torres was on hand to spin and fire home off the rebound.
The Red Bulls pulled a goal back with five minutes to play through a Dax McCarty header, but that was to be the end of the scoring, as New York suffered a damaging away defeat.
