Chris Pontius assisted three Charlie Davies goals to usher D.C. to a commanding 3-0 win over Chivas USA in California.
Within 15 minutes, the U.S. international had a brace. For the first, Davies redirected a miscued Chris Pontius shot into the back of the net. Pontius was far more intentional about the second, faking a shot before cutting the ball across to Davies, who slotted home easily.
The same players combined to ice the match in the second half. Dwayne De Rosario played a leading ball from deep, as he had for the first two goals, that Pontius raced onto. Pontius beat a marker and then centered for Davies to complete his hat-trick.
With the win, D.C. United has taken points off of every Western Conference team.
The worrying news for D.C. is that Pontius was taken to the hospital with a suspected leg fracture after a collision with David Junior Lopes, who was ejected for the play.
