Chivas USA 0-2 Colorado Rapids: Away win for the Rapids

Harry How

In a match featuring two backup goalkeepers and two teams eliminated from playoff contention, the away side that took the points.

With nothing but pride left to play for this season, for either team, the visiting Colorado Rapids took both that and the three points in a 2-0 win over Chivas USA.

The Chivas starting XI confirmed its desire to play aggressively, with Juan Agudelo and Alejandro Moreno up top. In spite of the Goats' threatening style, it was the Rapids who attacked. In the 16th minute, goalkeeper Tim Melia stopped a powerful shot, but the Rapids collected the rebound, eventually setting up Martin Rivero. The 22-year-old scored the early goal to give the visiting team the lead.

The shot attempts accumulated by both Chivas USA and the Rapids. The majority of possession belonged to the hosting squad, but in the 42nd minute, Omar Cummings took control of the ball, as Jeff Larentowicz ran towards the goal. This play attracted the defenders, leaving Kamani Hill wide at the far post. Cummings curled a cross to Hill, who headed in the second goal of the night.

Coming back from halftime, the Goats pressed hard, starting with an impressive attempt in the 50th minute, but Agudelo's header went wide.

The Colorado Rapids earn their first road game victory since May 6, with the win.
