Chicago Fire 1-1 Los Angeles Galaxy: Donovan bags equalizer

Matt Marton

Landon Donovan pulled his team back level late in the second half to earn a draw with the Fire.

A Landon Donovan goal was enough to help the LA Galaxy earn a 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire on Sunday.

The Fire took the lead 68 minutes into the match through a penalty. A bad giveaway from Juninho led to the midfielder sliding into Quincy Amarikwa to give away the spot kick, and Jeff Larentowicz stepped up to put it away.

The Galaxy hit back quickly, with Donovan finishing off a Robbie Rogers cross in the 74th to pull his team back level.

Rogers managed the win the ball on the Galaxy's right flank and raced forward before whipping it across the face of goal. Donovan, making a late run into the back post, took it first time into the top of the net.

The draw leaves both teams sitting below the playoff places in their respective conferences.
