Well, that's all from our LIVE coverage of events from Stamford Bridge tonight. Many thanks for joining us. Bring on the knockout stage!
It's the result that matters, though, and Mourinho's men march into the last 16 with 12 points from the group having lost twice to Basel. Schalke will join the Londoners in the knockout stage after the Bundesliga side won 2-0 at home to the Swiss club.
It was, by no stretch of the imagination, the Blues' best performance. They dominated possession in the first half and probably should have killed things off before the break, but they really took their foot off the gas in the second 45.
It's FULL TIME at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea have seen out the victory here with a 1-0 win over Steaua, meaning they top Group E and go through to the last 16.
90' + 4'
Terry does well to cut out a pass forward for Piovaccari, and ends up being clipped by the substitute, giving the hosts a free kick and a chance to run down the clock.
90' + 3'
Steaua have possession in their own half, but aren't making any real strides forward as we enter the final minute of injury time.
90' + 2'
Chance for Chelsea as Ivanovic gets into the box and to the by-line. Ba charges for the far post but the defender looks for Schurrle instead, and Steaua get the ball clear.
90' + 1'
SAVED BY SCHWARZER!! The Chelsea goalkeeper has his first test of the match, although it's not a particularly tricky one as Chipciu fires an effort from outside the box straight at the Australian.
The crowd are a little unhappy as the corner goes straight back to the halfway line and Chelsea waste possession with an aimless long ball out wide. Parvulescu breaks for the visitors and Ivanovic slides in to give the hosts their first corner of the match right as we enter stoppage time.
Ivanovic pops up on the left and flicks on a lovely ball for Schurrle, who gets into the area and cuts on to his right before firing at goal, but his effort is blocked and Steaua clear. It's straight back, though, and Schurrle wins a corner for the hosts.
DISALLOWED!! Great work from De Bruyne as the substitute skips past two men on the left before drilling a low ball which is turned behind. The Blues take it short and pass it around before Lampard flicks a wonderful pass beyond the defence, and Ba lashes it into the top corner but the flag is up and the goal won't count.
Ba goes up to meet a Schwarzer ball forward but loses out to Prepelita. The striker has been very quiet in this second half, but looks like playing the full 90 minutes.
Gardos powers forward and looks to spread the ball wide but ends up hammering it straight into touch, giving Chelsea some respite. The hosts seem happy to just see out the remaining minutes now.
Well, that was all a bit of a mess! Terry tries to clear a high ball but misses his kick, giving Piovaccari the chance to challenge for possession, but he ends up taking out the defender and the Blues have a free kick.
Ramires does well to hold off pressure from Iancu - who incidentally has the squad number 80 for some reason - and spreads the ball over to the far side for Cole. Good work from the substitute.
Piovaccari looks to get on the end of a pass beyond the defence but the ball ends up running out of play for a goal kick. It's very quiet inside Stamford Bridge; despite Chelsea's comfort so far tonight there hasn't been much to get excited about.
Kevin De Bruyne
Steaua have possession as we enter the final 10 minutes. They've been much better this half, but can they grab a goal?
There's more activity on the bench and it looks like Kevin De Bruyne is coming on for Willian, who has played well tonight.
Yellow Card Iasmin Latovlevici
Luiz steps in to intercept the ball and plays it forward to Willian, who turns Latovlevici brilliantly and looks to be away before the full-back tugs the Brazilian and earns himself a booking.
Schurrle is penalised for a foul on Latovlevici in midfield and Iancu swings the delivery into the box, but back out again as it evades everyone and goes out for a throw.
HAZARD GOES CLOSE AGAIN!! That's the Eden Hazard we've enjoyed seeing more of recently. He collects the ball on the left, steps up a gear and darts inside before firing a shot from 25 yards which whistles over the bar.
John Obi Mikel
Ramires is on for Mikel, who hasn't had the best of evenings. This could inject some life and pace into the centre of the Chelsea midfield.
Willian receives it deep again, and Ivanovic gets forward to receive his layed-off pass before driving it into the danger area, but Ba can't get anything meaningful on to it and it flicks out of the area.
Willian gets past the full-back and drives towards the area, but his cross is cut out and Steaua clear. There has been some resolute last-ditch defending from the visitors tonight.
That chance aside, Chelsea are possibly looking a little complacent. It's still only 1-0; let's not forget that.
OVER FROM HAZARD!! Schurrle sparks things into life, receiving the ball on the left and skipping into the area before firing at goal. The ball ricochets of a couple of bodies before flicking up towards Hazard, who directs a header just over the bar.
Leandro Tatu runs the ball out of play and it's a rare touch for Schwarzer as he has a goal kick to fire forward. Georgievksi produces another timely block to cut out a cross for Ba; he's been much better for the visitors tonight than in the match in Bucharest.
Chelsea are just looking a little bit laboured at the moment; they're passing it around at a very slow pace. Mourinho makes his first change of the match, hauling off Oscar and sending Andre Schurrle into the action.
Hazard is very nearly in behind as he flicks the ball past the defence, but Georgievski comes across to slide in brilliantly and put the ball out of play.
Mihai Doru Pintilii
Leandro Ângelo Martins
There's another change for the visitors as Leandro Tatu replaces Pintilli. Coach Laurentiu Reghecampf wants something from this game.
Oscar floats a long ball across the pitch looking for Willian but Latovlevici cuts it out before Hazard is penalisd for a shove on Parvulescu. Iancu has a chance at the other end but hammers the ball into the stand from 20 yards.
Nicolae Claudiu Stanciu
Andre Prepelita is the first substitute to make an appearance as he replaces Stanciu. Meanwhile, Schalke are now two up against Basel.
It's not a great delivery from Oscar as it floats high into the area and straight into the goalkeeper's arms. The visitors break quickly and it eventually comes to Pintilli, who rifles a low shot wide from 30 yards.
Hazard is next to take on the Steaua full-back, and manages to win a free kick which Oscar will look to swing into the box...
The hosts appear to have weathered that storm of Steaua possession and have gone back to keeping the ball. Oscar looks to get past Georgievski on the left-hand side but ends up conceding a throw.
Luiz floats one of his typical passes forward, but it's too powerful for Ba and comes off the striker's head before going out to Latovlevici.
Back at Stamford Bridge, Latovlevici is under pressure with a throw right by his own corner flag, but the visitors do well and manage to get the ball clear.
Julian Draxler has scored for Schalke to put the German side ahead against Basel, meaning they will join Chelsea in the knockout stage if they can hold on.
BA SHOULD SCORE!! Oscar sets a move going with some brilliant skill before finding Hazard, who spreads the ball over to Willian. The Brazilian looks up and drills in a low cross, which Ba meets but manages to scoop over from close range.
This is much better from Steaua. Georgievski gets forward and fires in a low cross looking for Kapetanos, but Terry reads it well and hacks the ball away.
Yellow Card Daniel Georgievski
After spending a reasonable amount of time on the floor, Georgievski gets up to be immediately shown the yellow card before marching off for more treatment.
Steaua are doing better here, and are enjoying a bit more of the ball. Georgievski bombs forward to chase the ball and Cole goes in for the 50-50, but the Steaua man comes off much worse. It looks like Cole pulled out of the challenge though and the right-back could be in trouble...
Yellow Card Branislav Ivanovic
Good work from Hazard, who picks up a loose ball in midfield and drives forward before switching it over to Willian. The midfielder flicks it on for Ivanovic but he loses out to the defender and ends up taking him out on the flank, earning the Serbian a booking.
The hosts get the ball rolling for the second half as play resumes once more. No changes for either side yet.
Almost time to get back underway. Chelsea were hit by two quick goals against Basel in matchday one in similar circumstances, but surely they won't let that happen tonight?
Will we see any changes at the break? Mourinho may want to give De Bruyne some game time later on but will want the result beyond doubt first. Steaua need some inspiration from somewhere, with Kapetanos getting no joy alone up front at the moment.
After a multitude of replays from various angles, it looks like Ba did indeed get the final touch for the goal. I'm sure he'll be very pleased.
As things stand Chelsea are cruising to finishing top of Group E, while Basel are through with the score 0-0 against Schalke. Steaua, meanwhile, look like going 23 Champions League games without a win; not a pretty stat for the Romanian side.
That's HALF TIME at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea are 1-0 up at the break, with complete control over proceedings. Steaua had a couple of great chances of their own but overall the Blues are well worth their lead, and would probably prefer to be further in front.
Cole and Hazard link up well on the left but they are eventually outnumbered and the ball is semi-cleared. Lampard latches on to the loose ball first and tries a first-time shot but it goes wide of the post.
Finally, a decent spell of possession for the hosts! But Stanciu's pass looking for Latovlevici on the left is cut out by Ivanovic.
Good skill and strength from Hazard as he holds off two defenders in the corner before playing back to Cole, but the full-back tries a flicked pass over the top which doesn't quite come off and Steaua clear.
Into the last few minutes of the half, then, and Chelsea are in complete control, but still only have the one goal to show for their dominance. Mourinho would love to see them get another before the break, just to make things a bit more comfortable.
Oscar gets down the right and whips in a cross, but Gardos cuts it out and the ball goes behind for another corner. The quick set piece comes out to Cole, who tries an audacious effort from distance which goes straight to the goalkeeper.
ALMOST TWO!! The Blues have another corner and it bounces at the near post before coming off Ba, and the striker tries a bicycle kick from close range but the whistle goes, seemingly for handball by the Chelsea front man.
LAMPARD FIRES OVER!! It's the Chelsea man who tries a long-range effort this time, as he runs inside before realising he has plenty of time to line up a shot, and he rifles the ball just over the bar.
KAPETANOS GOES CLOSE!! The striker has been very isolated so far tonight, but causes a sharp intake of breath from the home crowd as he picks the ball up and fires a dangerous shot from 25 yards which whistles wide of Schwarzer's near post.
That's wonderful skill from Willian as he takes out two players with one turn. It's worked wide to Ivanovic but his cross is headed out for a throw. Willian looks for Ba with a lofted ball into the box but the flag goes up for offside.
Oscar drops deep to receive the ball from Willian and tries to flick the ball wide to Ivanovic, but it comes off Latovlevici and goes for a throw. Chelsea still dominating possession.
Terry looks for Lampard but his pass is loose, and the midfielder is forced to go into a 50-50 challenge with Pintilli, but the Steaua man is penalised, possibly slightly harshly.
Stanciu tries an effort from the edge of the box but it's blocked by Ivanovic. The visitors threaten the Chelsea area for the first prolonged period, but eventually Kapetanos concedes a throw and Cole can alleviate the pressure.
The first half an hour is over, and Chelsea are in complete control here. They are at almost 70 per cent possession, which is very impressive.
The next corner is whipped in by Willian this time, but he goes to Lampard at the edge of the box and the midifielder tries a spectacular first-time volley which flies high and wide.
GREAT SAVE BY TATARUSANU!! Chelsea win their ninth corner and Hazard takes it short, receiving back from Willian before firing in a dangerous cross which Ivanovic flicks at goal, forcing a superb instinctive stop from the Steaua goalkeeper.
Kapetanos comes very deep to receive a throw, then hacks it forward but there's no-one to receive it. The visitors are really struggling for options at the moment, but still could hit on the break.
It seems as though Luiz and Terry have seen more of the ball than anyone. Chelsea are keeping Steaua in their own half and are moving it around comfortably, but with no major urgency.
It's a decent delivery but Tatarusanu claims well, and fires a long ball looking to set Stanciu away but it goes straight out for a goal kick at the other end.
Cole does well to get forward, charging to the line and looking to fire in a cross. It's blocked, but Chelsea have yet another corner.
It's a poor free kick in the end as Terry doesn't even have to jump in the wall to block it. Ba is almost straight in at the other end but Gardos produces a vital interception.
Yellow Card John Obi Mikel
Mikel is the first man in the referee's book tonight, as he controls the ball poorly and Stanciu nips in to steal it, but the Chelsea midfielder tugs him back and rightly gets a yellow card. Good chance for Steaua to test Schwarzer, here...
Huge cheers from the Steaua fans! Stanciu nutmegs Hazard with some fine skill before Lampard is penalised for a late challenge. Possibly lucky to escape a yellow there, the midfielder.
That's poor from Georgievski. The full-back just doesn't like playing Chelsea, and he wastes a glorious opportunity at the by-line, failing to pick out a team-mate and giving it straight to Schwarzer. The Blues break straight away but Willian - with three men in support - sees his pass cut out by Szukala.
Almost!! Lampard fires it in low and Ivanovic meets it, but the ball is slightly behind him and his volley goes straight to Tatarusanu.
Great skill from Oscar as he brings down an inward header from Ivanovic, turning quickly and drawing a foul. Lampard is lining this one up for a quick delivery...
That was a big let-off for the hosts, but service has returned to normal as Chelsea have the ball and are in no rush to send it forward.
IANCU SHOULD LEVEL IT!! Oh, what a chance!! Mikel gives it away in midfield and Steaua break through Stanciu, who slides a wonderful pass through the defence, and Iancu is on the end of it, striding through for a one-on-one with Schwarzer but he drags his shot wide. Massive miss.
The mood Chelsea seem to be in, and the way they are dominating things, spell trouble for Steaua. This could be a battering.
The Stamford Bridge announcer has given it to Ba, but it looked a lot like an own goal from here.
Goal Demba Ba
CHELSEA LEAD!! It was a matter of time, and Chelsea have the lead. The Blues win a corner on the right-hand side this time, and Oscar flicks it on at the near post before Ba challenges for it right on the line, but it comes off the leg of Georgievski and goes into the net.
Hazard does well to keep the ball in play as he meets a long diagonal pass and heads it inside to Oscar, who wins another corner for the hosts.
Chipciu - sporting the short sleeves and gloves combo - is penalised for a foul in midfield and Chelsea have the ball again. The possession is almost exclusively theirs at the moment.
Oscar picks the ball up on the right-hand side, muscling Latovlevici out of possession before seeing his cross deflected out for a throw. The Blues are looking threatening; ominous signs for the visitors.
CHAOS IN THE BOX!! Tatarusanu is bemused in the Steaua goal as the ball is fired in but deflects off a defender. It looks harmless but Szukala leaves it and it hits the goalkeeper on the leg before going out for another corner.
Hazard is nearly in behind the defence as Oscar flicks the ball forwards, but Georgievski gets back well to put it out for a throw before he is called into action again, sliding in to deny Cole and concede a corner.
OSCAR FIRES WIDE!! Willian drives into the Steaua half and plays the ball inside to Oscar, who darts towards the area before slicing a shot wide of the post. This is a bright start from the hosts, though.
Chance for Luiz! Terry fires a long ball out to the right and Ivanovic does well to chase and force a corner off Latovlevici. Luiz loses his man and gets to the delivery in space, but scuffs his volley well wide of the target.
Chelsea are settling in here, keeping the ball under little pressure from the visitors. Hazard wins a throw on the left-hand side and the Blues keep it at the back before Luiz tries his first long ball of the evening, but it goes straight out of play for a throw.
Steaua kick off and the game is underway.
The players march out of the tunnel on to the immaculate Stamford Bridge turf. It's not full inside the stadium, but hopefully there will be a good atmosphere to keep everyone warm tonight. Just the Champions League anthem to hear then we're ready for action!
Steaua's rivals CFR Cluj recorded a stunning victory against Manchester United in 2012; only the second time a Romanian club has won on English soil. Can there be a third tonight? Five minutes to go...
One man hoping for a solid defensive performance tonight is Branislav Ivanovic, who is making his 50th European appearance for the Blues. Schwarzer, meanwhile, becomes the third-oldest player to play in Europe's elite competition.
Defensively, Chelsea have been a bit vulnerable recently, conceding three goals in each of their last two Premier League matches against Sunderland and Stoke. It's not like a Mourinho side at all, and the Blues boss will certainly be looking for a tighter defence this evening.
In the other Group E match there's plenty at stake as the winner of the clash between Basel and Schalke goes through to the last 16. If Schalke come out on top, Chelsea will only need a point to top the group.
Pantelis Kapetanos comes into the Steaua side after the Greek striker didn't feature in the 0-0 draw against Schalke, and he will be hoping for a goal or two to guide his side to their first win of this year's competition.
So, Mark Schwarzer gets his Champions League debut for Chelsea, while Ashley Cole returns to the starting XI. Out-of-favour midfielder Kevin De Bruyne returns to the squad, too, and could be given a chance from the bench, while Oscar and David Luiz are risked from the start despite returning from injury.
STEAUA: Tatarusan, Szukala, Gardos, Latovlevici, Georgievski, Pintili, Chipciu, Pirvulescu, Stanciu, Iancu, Kapetanos. // Subs: Nita, Prepelita, Cristea, Leandro Tatu, Piovaccari, Neagu, Varela.
CHELSEA: Schwarzer; Ivanovic, D Luiz, Terry, Cole; Mikel, Lampard; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Ba. // Subs: Cech, Cahill, Ramires, De Bruyne, Mata, Schurrle, Torres.
The team news is in so let's bring you the line-ups, starting with the hosts...
A win for Jose Mourinho's side would guarantee top spot in Group E, while the Romanian club are just playing for pride as they are already certain to finish bottom.
