Rooted to his line as Kaka headed home from inside his 6-yard box early on. Little he could have done about the second and third goals and did not have any notable saves.
Certainly one of Celtic’s better performers as the left back put in a display full of energy and aggression. A second-half yellow card rules him out of the last game against Barcelona.
Like center back partner Van Dijk he struggled to cope with Balotelli and was out-muscled by the Italy striker ahead of the third goal.
A decent performance in midfield. Would have been disappointed to shoot straight at Abbiati in the first half but set up Van Dijk's golden chance and was solid on the ball.
V. van Dijk
This was not his night. Along with Forster, the Dutchman can be held culpable for Kaka’s header. He then missed a glorious chance to level the score when he opted for power from 6 yards out and shot straight at Abbiati. Almost made up for it but had a header ruled out for offside before he was caught out by Balotelli for the third goal and later booked for fouling the striker.
The right back produced another very strong all-around performance. He is comfortable against any company and would get a game for most teams in Europe.
Unlucky to clip the outside of the post with a second-half opportunity. Aside from that, the winger struggled to escape from Emanuelson for much of the game and the final ball was found lacking when he did.
Substituted just 30 minutes in after picking up an injury in a challenge with Montolivo. Had one opening that was snuffed out by Zapata.
Struggled to make any kind of impact playing in the hole behind Samaras. A booking for kicking the ball away summed up his frustrations before being replaced by Stokes after 65 minutes.
Provided a regular outlet down the left and always made himself available despite not producing a telling cross. Almost scored with a deflected free kick late on. Will be pleased to last the 90 minutes.
The Celtic captain on the night failed to produce a trademark big Champions League performance after being handed a surprise role as the central striker. Never stopped working, though.
Didn't inspire confidence from some early crosses but did not make any costly mistakes and dealt with everything Celtic came up with on the night.
Almost robbed by Samaras in his own box early in the game but improved from then on and made some timely interventions. Complemented Zapata well.
Generally coped with Forrest very well and will have been happy with his performance at left back.
Suffered a knock early in the game and battled on until being replaced just after halftime. Had his hands full with Boerrigter and Izaguirre running down his flank and coped reasonably well for the most part.
Tapped home the second goal to cap a very good performance. Strong and decisive in defense throughout the 90 minutes.
An impressive through ball set up Balotelli's goal. A calm and influential performance in midfield.
Rolled back the years with a stunning first-half display. Headed home a crucial first goal, produced a number of trademark surging runs and came so close with a brilliant long-range effort. Not quite as influential after the break but never stopped running. Applauded off by the Celtic support when he was replaced by Robinho late on.
N. de Jong
Angered the home fans with some typical strong challenges but did his job well in the holding role.
Two excellent corners led to goals for Kaka and Zapata. Not hugely involved in the rest of the game but those set pieces were decisive contributions.
Had a quiet start to the match but grew into the game as it progressed and was neat and tidy on the ball. Slotted in at right back after Abate came off.
A good all-around performance. Looked up for it from the start as attempted to end a six-game goalscoring drought. Had two early efforts to make his intentions clear and then had the ball in the net but was ruled out for a tight offside call. Got the goal he deserved by showing great power and a cool finish.
