This promises to be a competitive match with both sides yearning for maximum points.
Picking Up Points
Relegation-threatened Catania haven’t won since September 22 and have collected just two wins in the league all season. At the weekend the Sicilians played out a goalless draw with Sampdoria and it was their second successive goalless draw in Serie A.
The one point gained in Genoa means that Catania are now stationed in 13th place with 11 points from 10 matches. Encouragingly for them, they have not lost at home in the league but have drawn more matches than they have won.
However, Marco Giampaolo’s side will be eying maximum points against fellow relegation candidates Udinese tonight and playing at home will give them an edge.
Udinese are an in-form side at the moment and are heading more and more towards the top half of the table. The Udine-based club were held to a 1-1 draw by Cagliari at home at the weekend but it was their first draw in five league fixtures.
The Bianconeri are also unbeaten in seven matches in all competitions, and are 10th in the table with 14 points from 10 matches. Interestingly, Udinese are closer to the fourth and final Champions League place than they are to the relegation zone.
However, escaping the drop will be the main priority of Francesco Guidolin’s side, who will be seeking their third win on the road in Catania.
