  • Martinique is an overseas department of France and thus not an official member of FIFA.
  • The 2013 Gold Cup marks Martinique's fourth appearance in CONCACAF's regional championship. Its best finish was in 2002, when it reached the quarterfinal stage.
  • Canada faced Martinique in that 2002 Gold Cup quarterfinal, with the teams battling to a 1-1 draw in regulation. The Canadians won the penalty shootout and proceeded to place third in that tournament.
  • Interim head coach Colin Miller has called a very young Canada squad, with 11 of his 23 players having made less than ten international appearances each.
  • Real Valladolid's Keven Aleman is the only uncapped member of Canada's squad. The 19-year-old was born in Costa Rica and remains eligible for the Ticos until he plays an official competitive game for Canada.
  • Portland Timbers captain Will Johnson is set to make his debut as national team captain in this tournament. The 26-year-old central midfielder has 33 caps and three goals for Canada.
