Had a couple of routine saves to make, but still impressed with his good area control. Read the game well, and timed his runs decently.
Was reluctant to close down opponents as often as he should, which led to a few chances for Portugal. Managed to compensate his lack of pace with some good positioning.
Was very solid at the heart of the defense, and showed sound tackling. Was a bit slow to react on a couple of occasions, but generally did well.
Did not see much of the ball, and failed to impose himself in the middle of the park. Was a mere spectator at times as Portugal attacked, and generally struggled. Lacked pace and drive.
Showed inept defending as Portugal's best chances were results of his mistakes at the back. He was hesitant on the ball, misplaced his passes, and was a no-show in the final third.
Started out as attacker, but was forced to drop back, and truth be told he failed to impress on both sides of the pitch. Looked isolated from the game, and was beaten easily more than once.
Switched to left back from his natural position of center midfield and failed badly to adapt. Nani and Joao Pereira bypassed him in every way possible as the Hoffenheim midfielder struggled with his positioning. Had no impact in the final third.
Had virtually no impact on the game as he was isolated for large parts. Failed to showcase his usually impressive delivery from set-pieces. A game to forget for the Roma ace.
The ex-Wolfsburg playmaker had an abysmal outing as he failed to make any impact in the final third. Saw very little of the ball, and looked nervous and frustrated at times.
Drifted from unbelievably brilliant to utterly horrible with his passing as some silly mistakes on the ball overshadowed what was a very promising game by the ex-Valladolid man. Showed great technique, but was below par in his defensive duties.
Completely isolated from the game for large parts, the Manchester City had a match to forget. Had one shot in the 71st minute, and released Ibisevic a few times, which pretty much sums up his contribution.
Looked shaky at set-pieces, but generally did well in this match. Had very little to do, but organized his defense well, and intervened decently when called upon.
A solid display from the right back, who was a useful outlet in attack. Impressed with his passing but not so with his positioning as he was not in line with the rest of his defence and that allowed Ibisevic through on goal on numerous occasions.
Was stable for most of the game, but let his concentration drop in the final minutes of the match. Was caught flat-footed on a few occasions, but managed to make amends. All in all, a good performance.
The defender was unshakable. Made a few rough, niggling fouls but contained Dzeko throughout the game, although like the rest of his fellow defenders, he was troubled by Ibisevic.
Caught out of position a few times late in the game due to his reckless attacking in the final minutes. Left Ibisevic unmarked on a few occasions, but was generally stable in defence before the Hoffenheim striker's introduction. Not much of a threat in attack.
The Chelsea man showed occasional flashes of brilliance, and generally had a satisfactory game. Had a great volley saved in the ninth minute, and made a few incisive passes.
The midfielder put in a decent performance as he showed great understanding with Veloso and Meireles. Kept it simple on the ball, and showed good work-rate.
The Genoa man had a solid game as he managed to exert himself in the center of the pitch with relative ease. Distributed well, and fought for every ball.
Had a field day against Salihovic and was Portugal's most potent weapon in this match. Showed great technique and vision, impressing with his passing and brilliant runs. His back-heel pass in the 52nd minute which released Cristiano Ronaldo through on goal was simply breathtaking.
Missed a bunch of great chances as frustration got the better of him in this game. His final ball was below par and will not look back fondly on his miss in the 52nd minute. All in all, a disappointing performance by the Real Madrid ace.
The striker had an awful game as he wasted three very good chances on 17th, 30th and 54th minutes, which could have resulted in Portugal scoring vital away goals. His wastefulness prompted his substitution in the 65th minute.
- A. Avdukić
- M. Bešić
Replaced Medunjanin, but was not much of an improvement over the ex-Valladolid man as he failed to impress with his passing and work-rate.
- S. Štilić
- S. Ibričić
- Z. Muslimović
Horrible misses in the 73rd, 79th and 80th as he pretty much cost his side a victory.
