Live Commentary

  • That is it from me, Tom Webber, for this afternoon. Have a great day folks!
  • FULL TIME - Dortmund 4-0 Frankfurt: BVB cruise to a comfortable victory over the Eagles thanks to Lewandowski and Jojic adding to a first-half double from Aubameyang. The visitors were poor, but Klopp's men still deserve credit for some of the football they played to move within just one point of Bayer Leverkusen.
  • 90' + 1'
After a couple of seconds of added time, the referee brings the game to a close!
  • 89'
Frankfurt have been poor today, but with Werder Bremen, Stuttgart and Freiburg all currently not winning it shouldn't be too much of a problem for them immediately.
  • 87'
Another darting run behind the outside of the defence by Schmelzer but yet again the pass comes too late and he is called offside.
  • 86'
Dortmund are just under five minutes away from ending a run of four home games without defeat. Some style they have done it in too, but is there time for one more?
  • 85'
    Yellow Card Stephan Schröck
  • 84'
Thinking about that Jojic goal, it must be a contender for one of the fastest by a substitute in Bundesliga history. He couldn't have been on the pitch for longer than 15 seconds before slotting home with his first touch.
  • 83'
    Yellow Card Marco Russ
  • 83'
    Yellow Card Nuri Sahin
  • 82'
Sokratis is doing his part to ensure Frankfurt stay off the scoresheet. He raced back alongside Meier and won the ball off of him with a brilliant tackle on the half-way line.
  • 81'
    SubstitutionRobert Lewandowski Julian Schieber
  • 80'
Grosskreutz strides forward on the break and releases a powerful shot from 25 yards, but it arrows over the crossbar without testing Trapp.
  • 79'
STAT: BVB have kept just three clean sheets in their 10 home games so far this season. Despite having four goals they will be keen to earn a fourth today.
  • 77'
Dortmund look set to move to within just one point of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen this afternoon, then. They face a difficult game with Schalke later this today so Klopp will hope it is not just a temporary difference.
  • 75'
TRAPP! He has denied Lewandowski again! Another break for BVB is the danger source and Grosskreutz puts it on a plate for the Pole with a pass into the middle. His shot is kept out by the keeper, who then denies Hofmann from the follow-up too.
  • 73'
    SubstitutionC. Djakpa Bastian Oczipka
  • 73'
Sahin is the man handed responsibility, but he bends his effort from the free kick over the top corner of the goal with Trapp unworried.
  • 72'
Jojic wins a free kick in a dangerous central area, 25 yards from goal, for Dortmund, following a foul by Schrock. Who fancies this one?
  • 71'
    SubstitutionPierre-Emerick Aubameyang Jonas Hofmann
  • 71'
CLOSE! Sahin is not closed down on the near corner of the box and he attempts to guide a shot into the far corner. It lacks the required dip to test Trapp, though, and it falls behind to goal.
  • 70'
    Yellow Card Marc-Oliver Kempf
  • 70'
Kempf picks up a booking for hauling Lewandowski to ground after the striker had done brilliantly to control a long ball and lift it over the centre-back's head.
  • 68'
    Goal Miloš Jojić
GOOOOOOAL!! JOJIC! The Serbian has only been on the pitch for a matter of seconds on his debut but he slots home after Trapp fails to push Grosskreutz's initial effort away from the danger area. What a start to his Dortmund career!
  • 68'
    SubstitutionHenrikh Mkhitaryan Miloš Jojić
  • 66'
Jung tries to build something from the right flank and Frankfurt put a couple of decent passes together but the final one is intercepted by Sokratis. BVB attempt to counter but Mkhitaryan asks too much of Lewandowski with his through-ball.
  • 65'
Djakpa again tries his luck from distance but once more it swirls up high and completely misses the target.
  • 64'
Now it is Aubameyang who gets to the byeline and sets up Kehl inside the area, but the German fails to control the pass well enough to get himself into a shooting position. He, instead, knocks it out of play for a goal kick.
  • 62'
WHAT A CHANCE! Mkhitaryan breaks down the right and fires the ball across the area but it is just out of Lewandowski's reach, who narrowly misses it at the back post.
  • 61'
Russ looks to get his head to a cross from the near side but he fould Sokratis in his attempts to meet it. He is doing well to get in some dangerous positions, though.
  • 59'
THAT COULD HAVE BEEN THE HAT-TRICK! It's another rapid break from BVB which creates them a shooting opportunity, but from Piszczek's pass Aubameyang sent a tame effort rolling into the arms of Trapp.
  • 57'
Not quite as effective from Russ at the other end there! His shot from 30 yards was high and wild, soaring well above the target with Weidenfeller craning his neck to keep an eye on it.
  • 55'
HE HAS TO SCORE!! Grosskreutz is the man over on the left and his first touch takes him inside the area. Rather than shoot, he cuts inside and rounds Trapp, but that allows Russ enough time to dive across and block the shot at the vacant goal with his leg.
  • 54'
    SubstitutionTobias Weis Stephan Schröck
  • 53'
OFF THE LINE AGAIN! Another counterattack for BVB pulls Frankfurt apart with ease, and Piszczek's cross from the right picks out the opposite full-back at the back post. Schmelzer manages to get his header on target but Trapp scrambles across to claw the ball out of goal right on the line.
  • 51'
BVB are playing some lovely football at the moment, with the movement off the ball a real highlight of their attack's interlinking play.
  • 50'
Schmelzer makes a good run in behind the opposing full-back but Kehl's pass over the top comes just a little too late and he is adjudged to have been offside.
  • 48'
Veh could ot have imagined a worse start to the half. Dortmund's three-goal advantage surely spells the end to any chance Frankfurt had of picking up points today. Perhaps BVB will use this to give their fans as many goals as possible following their recent poor form.
  • 47'
    Penalty Goal Robert Lewandowski
GOOOOOOAAL!! Lewandowski drills the penalty into the corner of the net, with Trapp diving the other way. That is the striker's 14th Bundesliga goal this season.
  • 46'
PENALTY TO DORTMUND! Djakpa pushes Lewandowski inside the area as he goes to head a cross and the referee points to the spot.
  • 46'
    We are back underway!
  • Welcome back! The second half will be upon us in a matter of moments. Are BVB 45 minutes away from ending their troublesome run at home?
  • HALF TIME - Dortmund 2-0 Frankfurt: Two goals from Aubameyang give BVB a comfortable lead going into the break. They were both relatively simple finishes, but it takes his tally to 13 Bundesliga goals this season, the same as Lewandowski. The Eagles have been poor so far and have put in a rather incoherent display.
  • 45' + 3'
The referee blows his whistle for half time.
  • 45' + 2'
With Sokratis receiving treatment Frankfurt manage to work an opportunity to shoot at goal but Meier sends his volley well wide of the target.
  • 45' + 1'
We have a slight break in play here as Sokratis receives treatment after taking a ball to the face inside the Frankfurt box.
  • 44'
JUST WIDE! Sokratis again is the man connecting with a corner, but this time his header shades the outside of the post. The Greek has been dominant in the air at both ends tonight.
  • 42'
Russ gives the ball away in a dangerous area for the visitors once again and Grosskreutz bares down on goal immediately. He spots Lewandowski's brilliant run and feeds him with an equally impressive pass. The Pole takes a touch before loosing a shot at goal but once more Trapp gets his hands to it to deny him.
  • 41'
Mkhitaryan tries to be a bit to clever and flick a cross from the right on for Lewandowski with his heel, but he fails to connect. It bounces up off the ground, striking Jung close to the top of the arm and the home fans claim for a free kick. The referee is unmoved, though, and allows play to continue.
  • 39'
GREAT CHANCE! BVB prove dangerous on the break again with Mkhitaryan picking out Aubameyang on the right. The Gabonese gets into the area and rolls a pass across the area but Trapp narrowly beats Lewandowski to it to end the opportunity.
  • 38'
SO CLOSE! A corner from the right by Frankfurt is not dealt with and the loose ball almost drops for Russ just six yards out from goal. He is denied a simple finish by Sokratis, though, as the Greek gets an important clearance on the ball.
  • 38'
The tempo of the game has slowed down now as Frankfurt look to gain a foothold in the match by retaining possession. BVB will happy to let them do that far away from their goal, given that they already hold a two-goal advantage.
  • 36'
STAT: These two sides have met 81 times in the Bundesliga, with BVB having the better record of the pair with 38 wins to Frankfurt’s 27.
  • 34'
Nice move! The free kick is taken short to Mkhitaryan and he flights a lovely ball over the top to the back post. Sokratis nods it over into the danger area but Frankfurt deal with it to leave Trapp untested.
  • 33'
    SubstitutionAnderson Marc-Oliver Kempf
  • 33'
Well that knock has eventually brought Anderson's afternoon to an early close, so Kempf is introduced by Veh.
  • 31'
GOOD STRIKE!! After Sokratis commits a clumsy tackle 25 yards form goal, Djakpa unleashes a powerful effort from the resultant set piece. Fortunately for Weidenfeller it is directed close to him and he manages to bat the ball back out of the danger area.
  • 30'
Frankfurt manage to keep the pressure off their defence by displaying a bit more composure to hold the ball up the other end. After a couple of minutes on the sideline, Anderson hobbles back onto the pitch.
  • 28'
Anderson tracks the run of Lewandowski across the back well there and gets a toe to the ball as he tries to control Schmelzer's pass. He takes a knock in the process, though, and instantly signals that he needs medical attention from the bench.
  • 26'
The Eagles have just been awful in possession this afternoon. They do seem to missing the iron pivot of Schwegler in midfield, as they are really struggling to link anything to their forward quartet.
  • 23'
Aubameyang now takes his Bundesliga total this season to 13, the same as Lewandowski. The pair have more goals between them this season than the enitre Frankfurt squad. Quite impressive, and maybe it will allay some of the worries BVB fans have about the Pole leaving in the summer.
  • 21'
    Goal Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
GOOOOOAL! Aubameyang gets his second! Sahin's corner was steered towards goal by Friedrich, but Trapp did well to get down and keep it out with a strong hand. However, the ball fell straight at the feet of Aubameyang who then fired it into the back of the net.
  • 20'
GOOD SAVE!! Frankfurt are again caught in possession inside their own half, and this time the culprit is Weis. Schmelzer picks his pocket and then finds Lewandowski in the middle. He takes a couple of touches to shrug off Anderson but his near post shot is batted away by Trapp.
  • 19'
Dortmund break down the left through Grosskreutz and he slips a pass to the overlapping Lewandowski on the right. The Pole attempts to check back and dribble past Madlung once more but the centre-back manages to get a touch to the ball which sends it out for a corner.
  • 18'
Djakpa cuts inside onto his right foot and gets his head up, looking for a team-mate in the box. He attempts to flight a ball into the middle but ends up putting it wide of the near post. His quality will need to improve in those areas if Frankfurt want to test the BVB defence.
  • 17'
Impressive tracking from Aigner there as he got back and dispossessed Sahin in his own half. He the cut in front of the midfielder to draw a foul for which the referee awarded a free kick.
  • 16'
Piszczek again looks to launch a counterattack from a Frankfurt corner, though this time he initiates it down the left flank. He attempts to curl a pass over the top for Lewandwoski but Anderson Bamba gets an important head to it.
  • 14'
Armin Veh looks less than impressed by the start his team have made here, but ultimately they have been undone by a singluar moment of brilliant from Mkhitaryan. A truly great assist.
  • 12'
Aubameyang is now caught in possession just as Jung was. Djakpa attempts to pounce by running in behind but the Gabonese uses his pace to get back and make an important challenge to recover the ball.
  • 10'
    Assist Henrikh Mkhitaryan
  • 10'
    Goal Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
GOOOOOAAAL! Dortmund have the lead! Jung was caught in possession by Mkhitaryan just 30 yards away from his own goal. The Armenian cut inside and bided his time before threading an immense eye-of-the-needle pass which Aubameyang slotted home at the back post.
  • 9'
VITAL CLEARANCE! Lewandowski skips around Madlung on the near side and rolls the ball to the back post for Mkhitaryan. He takes a touch before guiding a shot past Trapp but Djakpa recovered and got an important touch to the ball to stop it from nestling in the bottom corner.
  • 8'
STAT: Robert Lewandowski is the second-highest scoring player in the Bundesliga with 13 goals. If you add to that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 11 then the duo have scored the same amount as the entire Frankfurt squad have managed so far this season.
  • 6'
Nice idea from Lewandowski! He spots Sahin peeling off his marker on the far side and attempts to curl a ball over the top for the midfielder. He shapes it well but puts a bit too much power behind it which sees it fall to far ahead of him.
  • 5'
OVER THE TOP! Piszczek makes a break down the right, catching Frankfurt on the counterattack, but fires his cross into Lewandowski. The Pole is unable to control it and both Sahin and Grosskreutz fail to get a shot away on the follow-up. The ball is eventually cleared to Kehl but his effort from distance rises above the bar to go behind.
  • 3'
A cross from the takes a nick off of Sahin and momentarily misfoots Weidenfeller. However, the keeper reacts quickly to readjust and gather the ball calmly at his near post.
  • 2'
Frankfurt win a free kick just inside the Dortmund half and opt to use the chance to send a long ball into the area. Jung is the man to clip it in but Sokratis gets up to nod away the danger. No one else looked like getting close to that!
  • 1'
    We are underway in Dortmund!
  • It looks like a superb atmosphere inside the Signal Iduna Park this afternoon. The numerous fans will surely be expecting their side to return to winning ways, and kick off is just a couple of minutes away.
  • BVB could temporarily close the gap between themselves and second-placed Bayer Leverkusen to just one point with a win today. Sami Hyypia's men do play later this afternoon, though, but face a tough task against a Schalke side currently in fourth position.
  • Dortmund have not lost to Frankfurt in their last five meetings and it has been over three years since the Eagles last won at the Signal Iduna Park. Alexander Meier scored the winning goal for the Eagles in a 3-2 win in February 2010. It is their only victory from their last 16 visits.
  • For the visitors, Carlos Zambrano rested as a booking would rule him out against Werder Bremen next week. Pirmin Schwegler is injured and Tranquillo Barnetta is also lacking match fitness so will not feature.
  • Jurgen Klopp's injury problems in defence continue with Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic ruled out through injury. Sokratis and Manuel Friedrich therefore start again at the back, but Marco Reus, Ilkay Gundogan and Jakub Blaszczykowski all remain sidelined. Still, it is the same starting XI that defeated Frankfurt 1-0 as recently as Tuesday.
  • Frankfurt subs: Wiedwald, Oczipka, Kempf, Inui, Schrock, Kadlec, Joselu.
  • Frankfurt (4-2-3-1): Trapp; Jung, Anderson, Madlung, Djakpa; Russ, Lanig; Aigner, Meier, Weis; Rosenthal.
  • Dortmund subs: Langerak, Bender, Hofmann, Jojic, Schieber, Sarr, Durm.
  • Dortmund (4-2-3-1): Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Friedrich, Sokratis, Schmelzer; Kehl, Sahin; Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan, Grosskreutz; Lewandowski.
  • The teams have been announced, so let's look at how both sides are going to shape up today.
  • BVB have struggled to perform in front of their home fans as of late, failing to win in their last four Bundesliga games on their own patch. Frankfurt, meanwhile, have struggled similarly on their travels, having picked up just five points from a possible 21 from their previous seven matches on the road. Will something give today?
  • Hello and welcome to this afternoon's LIVE play-by-play coverage of the Bundesliga meeting between Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt. The Signal Iduna Park has not been quite the fortress it once was in recent weeks, so Armin Veh's men may hope they can leave with something to show for themselves today. My name is Tom Webber and I will be guiding you through all the action.
