He had absolutely nothing to do for the majority of the match. Comfortably made the odd save and could do nothing to stop the late consolation goal.
Made an outstanding block in the first half to deny a certain goal and stopped Simeon Jackson getting through on goal with a well-timed slid interception. Looked solid and extremely dependable.
As always, displayed dynamism in his overlapping runs down the left-hand side, but his eventual crosses into the box for Lewandowski and Co. could have been better.
Showed a turn of pace at just the right moments to nullify the threat of the speedy Jackson. Grabbed an assist with a sensational returned one-two to Hofmann which split the opposition defense.
Stripped some paint of the left-hand post with a rasper of a strike from 25 yards out. As the game went on he began to exert his authority and run the game from deeper areas. Was always available for the pass inside.
Showed plenty of endeavor down the right-hand side but his final pass wasn't always up to scratch. Was eventually replaced by Reus, who changes the game.
Almost cost a goal in the first period with a lackadaisical pass along the box but recovered his concentration as the game progressed. Should have showed more attacking ambition, though.
Almost broke the deadlock in the first half with a wicked free kick that went just the wrong side of the crossbar. Had a few long-range attempts that were never bothering the opposition goalkeeper.
Looks to have struck up a nice partnership with Lewandowski but his affect on the game was largely limited to speculative efforts on goal from the outside of the box. A decent debut in the Bundesliga from the Armenian.
Has gelled well with the Dortmund front line and his pace was always a threat whether it was on the left or right wing. However, tried a few tricks too many and blazed a superb chance over the bar at the back post.
Decision-making was not his usual best as he surrendered possession a few times. His hold-up play was much better as he continually introduced midfield runners into the game. However, squandered a golden opportunity from just a few yards out. Saw the ball unluckily bounce off his head for an own goal.
Made a couple of superb saves in the first half and denied Blaszczykowski when the Pole looked to be through on goal. Continued his form in the second half and could do nothing to prevent either goal.
Was a rock at the back for the majority of the match. Was always in the correct position to just intercept through passes and kept Lewandowski at bay with his close marking. Unlucky to be on the losing side.
Had his hands full with Aubameyang and eventually Reus galloping at him down the right but done his best to show them inside. However, did struggle with the movement of the German in the latter stages.
Was extremely lucky not to receive a booking for an over-zealous challenge on Aubameyang and then a barge on Mkhitaryan. Fatigue eventually showed as he gave away the penalty with a tired sliding challenge on Hofmann.
Put some quality crosses into the box in the first half with no takers among his teammates. However, like the rest of the team he retreated into his own half as the game went on.
Came within inches of giving his side an unlikely lead in the first half when his unorthodox volley went just wide of the right-hand post. Earned a booking for a cynical tug on Sahin.
Took the pressure off his teammates on a number of occasions by bursting out of his own half to take possession up the park.
Was tactically aware all throughout the match as he screened the area in front of his defense. Didn't show much attacking ambition but nicked out passes when he could.
Attempted to be the creative influence in midfield but spent a lot of of the match in his own half to make a real impact. Displayed a cool head in possession but couldn't find any decisive passes.
Looked to take the pressure off his side by taking the ball on runs down the right but found himself outnumbered the majority of the time. Did a good defensive shift however and helped out Elabdellaoui.
Showed an incredible youthful exuberance after his introduction which Braunschweig simply couldn't handle. Opened the scoring by capping off a nice move with a smart finish and won the penalty with a bursting run into the box.
Came on with thirty minutes to go and changed the game for Dortmund. Played in between the lines which caused major trouble for Braunschweig and grabbed the winning goal with a well-taken penalty.
