Anatoliy Tymoshchuk scored a brace as Bayern Munich cruised to a well-earned victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
After cutting to hs left, Tymoshchuk opened the scoring on the half hour mark with a blast to the left post. Theofanis Gekas leveled four minutes later after following up his previous effort, which was saved off the woodwork. The score held until the 59th minute, when Thomas Mueller tapped in after Toni Kroos' effort from distance was spilled by Oka Nikolov. Just two minutes later, the Macedonian goalkeeper parried Franck Ribery's effort into the path of Mario Gomez, who made no mistake from six yards. Ribery then set up Tymoshchuk for a late fourth to cap off a fine performance.
Gomez thought he had the opener after 10 minutes when he scored from Ribery's rebound, but the play was called back from offside. Frankfurt should have scored moments later after Daniel van Buyten misjudged a long ball to leave Gekas with an open chance on goal. However, after the Greek rounded Hans-Joerg Butt, Breno made an outstanding block, and Kittel's second effort missed narrowly wide.
After Gekas' equaliser, Bayern made a late surge, but Mueller missed wide and Gomez was unable to properly control a brilliant ball from Bastian Schweinsteiger.
After Van Buyten' substitution, Bayern were much better in the second half. Gomez hit the left post after a fine through ball from Schweinsteiger before he and Mueller scored in rapid succession. With the score 3-1, the hosts settled, and their possessional advantage limited Frankfurt's chances. Only in the 84th minute did the visitors finally look like scoring, but substitute Martin Fenin had his volley saved by Butt, who was at full stretch.
Gomez had a chance to complete his brace on 86 minutes, but the Germany international took too much time and had his effort saved by Nikolov before Tymoshchuk added the fourth.
The result sees Bayern advance to fifth in the Bundesliga table, with 23 points from 14 matches. Frankfurt slip to ninth, but remain just three points behind their Bavarian rivals.
