  • That's it from me, Harry Slavin. Thanks for joining me for tonight's action in Switzerland. I'm sure we'll be hearing plenty more about that protest in the first half but until next time, it's goodbye for now!
  • FULL-TIME: BASEL 0-1 SCHALKE. Jens Keller's men stay top of Group E after an efficient and controlled performance in Switzerland. The hosts saw plenty of the ball, but it is Draxler's sweet volley that settled it.
  • 90' + 3'
Szalai has the ball in the corner in for Schalke. That should just about be that...
  • 90' + 1'
Hildebrand comes to punch a deep cross but it isn't a convincing one and it falls to Degen. The defender has the composure to take a touch but all awareness stops there as he lashes wildly at a half-volley, ballooning the ball behind for a goal kick.
  • 90'
Into three minutes of added time we go. Three minutes for the hosts to get something out of this and for the visitors to shut them out.
  • 89'
    Yellow Card Matias Emilio Delgado
  • 89'
Into the final minute then we go. Delgado is involved but it's only in the form of a booking for a very harsh foul.
  • 87'
They've been very reluctant to get forward since going infront but Draxler has almost provided a magical second! The winger gives Salah a headache with some slick step-overs and cuts onto his right foot before sending his effort over. It looked like it took a deflection but referee Undiano things otherwise.
  • 86'
The last time these sides met was seven years ago. Matias Delgado bagged a late equaliser on that occasion as the sides drew 1-1. Can the sub repeat that feat tonight?
  • 85'
    Substitution Max Meyer Tim Hoogland
  • 84'
Substitution Behrang Safari Matias Emilio Delgado
  • 84'
    Substitution Fabian Frei Philipp Degen
  • 84'
Murat Yakin rolls the dice one last time as he brings on Delgado and Degen for the final moments. Schalke also make their final change as Hoogland comes on for Meyer.
  • 82'
Almost a horror moment for Sommer! The Basel keeper receives an innocuous from Safari but the ball takes a horrible bounce off of the unpredictable surface and loops over his foot and luckily, for Basel, behind for only a corner.
  • 80'
Ten minutes to go. A long hopeful ball is sent for Streller to chase once more but Hildebrand gathers easily as it bounces off the soggy turf.
  • 78'
    Substitution Dennis Aogo Sead Kolasinac
  • 78'
Second substitution from Schalke and this is probably a wise move from Keller. Sead Kolasinac comes on for Dennis Aogo has been walking the tightest of tightropes since that caution in the first period.
  • 76'
Salah!! Finally a shot on target from the visitors but it's dealt with by Hildebrand. The Egyptian takes his shot first time as Frei plays the ball back to him but the German keeper has his near post covered and palms it behind for a corner.
  • 74'
Dennis Aogo is a very lucky man. The right-back comes right through the back of Salah. It's a free kick alright but for reasons best known to himself, Alberto Undiano decides to keep that second yellow-card in his pocket.
  • 72'
Boateng has the chance to set Szalai away down the right but his pass is over-hit. The Keller's side have had few chances to counter this evening and you feel they may have to take one if they're to guarantee three points.
  • 70'
Just twenty minutes to go now in this one. Despite their huffing and puffing, Basel have yet to hit the target this evening. Can they find a way past the Hildebrand in these closing stages?
  • 68'
Some appeals for handball against Neustadter as he miscontrols the ball in the area! The ball comes off his foot and leaps up to his midriff. The Basel fans claim he uses an arm, but there's nothing doing.
  • 66'
Salah is being systematically felled this evening by the visitors. Szalai is the latest to ruffle the Egyptian's feathers as he concedes a free kick on half-way.
  • 65'
    Yellow Card Marco Höger
  • 64'
Third booking of the night for the visitors as Marco Hoger joins Farfan and Aogo in the book. Basel are looking for a way back into this but they've yet to test Hildebrand this evening.
  • 62'
Substitution Taulant Xhaka Giovanni-Guy Yann Sio
  • 62'
Murat Yakin makes his first change as he brings off Xhaka and bring on Sio in the middle.
  • 60'
The ball falls to Safari on the edge of the area but he is leaning back as he goes to hit the effort and it flies over the bar.
  • 58'
Ushida, who opened Schalke's account in the Champions League for the season against Steaua Bucharest, has had fairly quiet game tonight. He tries to get down right but doesn't get far, as he is upended by Safari.
  • 56'
The corner came about as Boateng saw his shot deflected wide. It looked like it had been coming for the visitors. Can the hosts find a response?
  • 54'
    Goal Julian Draxler
  • 54'
GOOOAAALLL!!!! DRAXLER GIVES SCHALKE THE LEAD!!! Aogo swings in a poor corner but the clearance at the front post falls to Draxler on the edge. The promising youngster takes one step back to let the ball bounce before unleashing an unstoppable drive beyond Sommer. The Germans lead!
  • 53'
BAR!!! Draxler does well to get down the left and he sends a cross over to the back post. It gets cleared out but only as far as Meyer, whose effort crashes back off the upright!
  • 51'
Ivanov collects the ball a good 35-yards from goal and decides he fancies a crack at goal. He connects well enough with it but it flies harmlessly wide. Hilderbrand never looked troubled.
  • 50'
Basel are looking to get Salah on the ball whenever possible and he looking a genuine threat down that right. With a yellow card to his name already, it could be a long evening for Aogo. Or even a shorter one if he isn't careful.
  • 48'
Aogo almost plays his side into a bit of trouble early on but he's rescued by Boateng who comes back to help out and is subsequently fouled.
  • 46'
Schalke get the ball rolling for the second period. Can either side make their own statement on the pitch in the second period?
  • The teams are back out at St.Jakob-Park. It doesn't look like there are any further changes at the break, after Schalke brought off Farfan just at the end of the first half.
  • That protest early on in the half may be in the news for a few days yet. It was a pretty well thought-out protest from the couple, who looked to be disguised as a couple of engineers. It won't have gone down well however with the UEFA President in presence, nor the Champions League sponsors who it was aimed at.
  • It's safe to say that Basel are faring much better than they did last time out in the Champions League against German opposition. Bayern Munich were the last side Basel came up against and that ended in a 7-0 tonking at the hands of Die Roten. Something tells me I can't see there being a repeat tonight.
  • HALF-TIME: BASEL 0-0 SCHALKE. After a bizarre start here, both teams have had chances to let the football do the talking. Boateng should have put Schalke ahead, but after a cautious start, the home side have began to look the stronger and Streller almost gave them the perfect end to a promising half.
  • 45' + 4'
STRELLER!!!! How close can you get! Vosser embarks on a strong run down the right and when he aims his cross for the penalty area, Streller rises above Santana to power a header goalwards. Hilderbrand is getting nowhere near it but it bounces at the foot of the post and roles wide. Inches.
  • 45' + 2'
Boateng arrives late on Safari in the corner and is lucky not to join his two team-mates in the book. Still three minutes left.
  • 45'
Substitution Jefferson Agustin Farfán Adam Szalai
  • 45'
There will be five minutes of added on time and that is five minutes too many for Farfan. The Peruvian is off and Szalai, who started Schalke's first Champions League tie against Steaua Bucharest, is on in his place.
  • 44'
Just a minute to the break but expect a heap of injury time for that bizarre stoppage at the beginning of the game. It also looks as though Farfan might struggling. Adam Szalai is preparing to come on.
  • 42'
Now a free kick at the other end and almost an opening goal for the visitors! Neustadter rises well to meet Aogo's deep cross and does well to direct it away from the keeper. Agonisingly though the midfielder manages to steer the effort just wide too.
  • 40'
Murat Yakin will be very pleased with his side's response to their slow start. Streller swings in another cross but Howedes is able to head clear.
  • 38'
    Yellow Card Jefferson Agustin Farfán
  • 38'
Two yellows in quick succession for the visitors as Jefferson Farfan clatters Xhaka in midfield. The German's are looking just a little rattled at the moment.
  • 37'
    Yellow Card Dennis Aogo
  • 37'
Salah get's the better of the Schalke right-back again and this time Aogo lets his frustration get the better of him, clipping the midfielder's heels, picking up a yellow card and giving away a dangerous free kick.
  • 34'
The hosts are beginning to find their feet now and Salah has skipped away from Aogo on the left a couple of times now. They're growing in confidence after that slow start.
  • 32'
Chance! Streller controls the ball in the box for the hosts and tries an ambitious acrobatic effort, which he doesn't get quite right. It appears it was all in vain in any case, as Undiano penalises the striker for handball.
  • 30'
Farfan burts into the area for Schalke but he loses possession of the ball with a rash touch and Schar is able to shield the ball out for a goal kick. Frustrating play from the Peruvian.
  • 28'
Oh dear. That has to be one of the worst-timed runs you are ever likely to see. Boateng is probably still tying his shoelaces when Santana sets off on his back-post run to meet the free kick. By the time the striker does put in the cross, the former Dortmund man is a good three, four yards off. Woeful timing.
  • 27'
Now here is a possible opportunity. Boateng wins a free kick inside the Basel half after he is tugged back. Up come Howedes and Santana from the back. This could pose some problems for Yakin's men.
  • 25'
With both teams having such a bright start to their respective Champions League campaigns, it's understandable that both are reluctant to throw that all away in the early stages here. It isn't making for the greatest game for the neutral at the moment though.
  • 23'
Twice in quick succession Streller is brought down and on both occasions referee Undiano isn't interested. The first call was probably right but he looks a little unlucky not to be given anything on the edge of the area as Aogo brings him crashing to the turf.
  • 21'
It's a pretty soggy night in Basel and there's a lot of standing water on the pitch. It doesn't look like it will threaten the game at the moment, but it isn't helping either side's ground game at the moment.
  • 19'
That is a bit better from the hosts now though who fire their first shot on goal through Salah. The midfielder lets fly with his left foot but his effort is always going over. First sign of any intent from the home side.
  • 17'
Meyer has a go now! The ball sits up nicely for the midfielder but his shot is blocked by a Basel defender. Still the home side look sloppy here.
  • 15'
The Swiss side really haven't woken up after that unscheduled stop right at the beginning of the half. They almost dug themselves a hole there and are actually fortunate not to be behind.
  • 13'
BOATENG!!! Huge chance for the former Milan man as Basel fall asleep at the back. Fabian Schar swings his boot at a low cross from Uchida but only succeeds in looping the ball into the air. It falls at the feet of the Ghanaian striker but he flashes his first time shot just wide of the post.
  • 11'
A drop ball then and we are back up and running in Switzerland. The players now have to find their rhythm all over again. Not and ideal start to this one.
  • 9'
After that stop we are almost in position where we can get back up an running. UEFA President Michele Platini looks a pretty disgruntled guest in the Directors Box. He's likely to field many a question about that banner later tonight.
  • 7'
I've seen protests before but that really was well planned. It looks as though the protest may have been against one of the Champions League's main sponsors, which makes it understandable why the stadium staff wanted it down so quickly.
  • 5'
This is incredible! We are barely five minutes in and the game has been stopped by a couple of protestors who have managed to abseil down from the roof! I have never seen anything like it!
  • 3'
It was huge victory last time out in the competition for Yakin and his side and there is definitely an expectation in Switzerland for them to add to that scintillating start, a point made clear by a boisterous support inside St.Jakob-Park this evening.
  • 1'
Undiano gives the signal and we are off in Switzerland in the Champions League.
  • Referee Albeto Undiano is ready to in the middle. So are the two teams. We are about to get underway!
  • Good news on the injury front for both sides then as Fabian Schar overcomes a knee problem for Murat Yakin's side, while Jens Keller is able to name Julian Draxler in attack after he also recovers from a knee scare.
  • SCHALKE (4-2-3-1): Hilderbrand; Uchida, Howedes, Santana, Aogo; Hoger, Neustadter; Farfan, Meyer, Draxler; Boateng.
  • BASEL (4-5-1): Sommer, Voser, Schar, Ivanov, Safari; Salah, Diaz, F. Frei, Xhaka, Stocker; Streller.
  • We are only ten minutes or so away from kick off so let's get the team news from St. Jakob-Park, starting with the hosts.
  • Well, all being well, we can certainly expect goals! Both these sides were involved in high-scoring draws at the weekend and aren't afraid to go forward, while both defences have been breached a few too many times for their coaches' liking already this season.
  • Not many people would have predicted this with Jose Mourinho's Chelsea in the group, but these two sides go into this game as the top two after the first round of fixtures. The Swiss outfit stunned the former European Champions with a late turnaround at Stamford Bridge to blow Group E wide open on the opening week. So what drama are we in store for tonight?
  • Good evening and welcome to live text commentary coverage from the Champions League Group E clash between Basel and Schalke. I'm Harry Slavin and I'll be here to take you through all the action from Switzerland.
