Full time in Camp Nou. Lionel Messi nets a wonderful four-goal tally as Barcelona humble Osasuna in La Liga. Both Arribas and Jose Luis Mendilibar were sent off for the visitors which made the majority of the gam incredibly difficult for the away side. They may be glad that the scoreline was as small as it was! El Clasico next for Barca! I'm Martin Macdonald, thank you for joining us on Goal.com!
Wonderful clearance from Lolo! Alexis plays the ball into the path of Fabregas who has the whole in which to aim but it is taken off his foot by the Osasuna defender who charged across the box to make the challenge!
Osasuna have wanted this game to finish for a while now. Barca haven't exactly turned up the heat in the second half, but the visitors should be happy that the score hasn't worsened.
Sore one for Nano!! Cesc clips the ball into the danger area and Thiago attempts to spectacularly scissor kick the ball towards goal but he catches the Osasuna man square in the face. It was accidental but the defender was shaken for a sec. He'll be okay.
Play just a little too tight in the Osasuna half. Messi plays the ball out to Villa, who attempts to return the favour inside the box but the Argentine is crowded out and Osasuna manage to get the ball up the park.
Superb defending from Ruben! Alves ships in a fantastic cross to the back post and Villa looks poised to head towards goal, but the Osasuna sub takes the ball off his head with a well-timed interception!
Great play from Alexis!! The Chilean exchanges a one-two with Dani Alves before getting to the byline and smashing a cross into the box but Osasuna manage to clear the ball to safety! Much better from the Barca sub.
Poor from Villa. The Barca man picks up the ball on the left and looks to burst into the area but takes too many touches and allows Bertran to steal the ball at the byline.
VILLA!!! Messi spreads a pass out to the left wing and Adriano lays the ball into the path of the former Valencia man who curls a shot towards the top corner. Luckily for Osasuna, the attempt goes just over the bar.
Unlucky from Alexis! The Chilean takes the ball down expertly with his chest and turns swiftly but his shot is just dragged wide of the left-hand post. The Barca substitute has yet to register a goal in La Liga this season.
Last change of the match from the Catalans. Sergio Busquets comes off for Alex Song. The Spaniard likely being rested for El Clasico on Wednesday.
A break in play at the moment as Dani Alves goes right through the back of Oier. He got the ball but his arm caught the Osasuna man in the back of the neck. It looks like he'll be okay.
Exhibition match for Barca now. They are passing the ball along the defence and midfield at will and Osasuna are letting them do their thing.
Osasuna respond and make their third and final change. Defender, Ruben, comes on to replace Miguel Flano in the centre of defence. He'll have his work cut out for him.
Barca ringing the changes now. Midfield maestro, Xavi, comes off for Cesc Fabregas. It doesn't really get better for Osasuna.
Busquets finds himself in a bit of a difficult situation on the byline as he is surrounded by three Osasuna players. Luckily for him, Puyol is there to come in, help out, and spread the ball across to the opposite flank.
Osasuna's heads are well and truly down now. They need to tear themselves out of this funk as they will have to work extremely hard to make the scoreline seem respectable.
First change of the match from Barcelona. Pedro comes off to be replaced by Alexis Sanchez.
You really do fear the worst for Osasuna here. 5-1 down and 30 minutes to play!
Goal Lionel Messi
GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!! It is raining goals here! And it's Messi's number four! Adriano curls the ball on to the edge of the six yard box and the Argentine gets in front of his markers to turn the ball into the net!
Assist David Villa
Goal Lionel Messi
GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!!!! David Villa slips the ball through the legs of an Osasauna defender and Messi goes through and rounds Fernandez before slotting home!! 4-1!
Osasuna are playing a dangerous game with their offside trap here. Their defensive line is almost at the halfway line and Barca will surely look to exploit it.
Whenever they lose the ball, Barcelona are relentless in their pursuit of Osasuna in their attempts to gain back possession. It means that he visitors can't make their way towards the opposition goal.
Yellow Card Oier
Barca not in any hurry here. The tempo of the passing is at quite a slow pace. Suppose they don't really have any need to rush things.
You wonder what Osasuna's tactics will be for this second half. The changes at half time weren't overly defensive so they may still be up for having a go here.
Osasuna have made two changes for the start of the second period. Patxi Punal and Masoud have been introduced in place of Alvaro Cejudo and Miguel De las Cuevas.
De las Cuevas
We are back under way at Camp Nou!
45' + 1'
Half time in the Camp Nou. Lionel Messi opened the scoring but Raoul Loe managed an unlikely equaliser for the visitors. Osasuna then capitulated as Arribas, as well as coach, Mendilibar, was sent off. Messi netted a penalty and Pedro made it 3-1 as Barca enter the break with a comfortable lead. It may be a case of how many they will get now. Join is in 15 minutes for the second half!
The visitors need to make it to half time without any more damage here. They need to get in, regroup, and see if they can get through the second 45 minutes without conceding three or four more.
Osasuna are getting no luck at all here! Replays show that Dani Alves was a yard or two offside when he received Xavi's pass!
Assist Daniel Alves
GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!!! Xavi clips a perfect pass over the top of the Osasuna defence for Dani Alves, who cuts inside before reversing the ball to the edge of the six yard box. Pedro is there to stab home! 3-1! It gets worse for the visitors!
Messi hits the post!! The Argentine gets the better of Marc Bertran at the front post and directs the ball towards goal but it clips off the inside of the woodwork!
Never offside!! Xavi threads a superb pass down the inside left channel for Messi, who bears down on goal. The play is brought back as the linesman has his flag up. He was three yards onside!
Barcelona looking to go for the jugular here. They sense Osasuna are shaky at the back after losing their central defender. It may be a matter of time before they extend their lead.
If it wasn't already hard enough, Osasuna's task is now momentous. They are a goal down, a man down, and a coach down.
The referee forces Jose Luis Mendilibar to watch from the stand! The Osasuna coach was protesting too much about the dismissal of his player and has been sent off also.
It Spain, whenever a player touches the ball with his hand, deliberate or not, it is an automatic yellow card. Should a player be forced to leave the park for such an offence? Unless it is deliberate or denying a goalscoring opportunity, no chance.
Penalty Goal Lionel Messi
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!!! Messi steps up and rifles the ball into the bottom left corner! 2-1!
Penalty to Barcelona and Arribas is sent off! The Osasuna man is shown his second yellow card for his second handball of the match! So harsh on the visitors!
A lot of poor defending from Barca on that one. Adriano was nowhere at left-back, Villa failed to block the cross, and Pedro didn't block the shot on the edge of the box.
Assist Marc Bertrán
Goal Raoul Cédric Loe
GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL FOR OSASUNA! They are back in it!! Marc Bertran crosses into the box and the ball deflects to the edge of the area. Raoul Loe is there to screw a left-footed shot into the bottom corner! 1-1 at Camp Nou!
A feature of Barca's tonight has been attempted long balls over the top of the Osasuna defence. The away side's offside trap has been pretty decent so far, though.
Messi whips the free kick into the box and Fernandez comes out to clear. The ball breaks to Xavi who volleys over the bar. The Osasuna goalkeeper is currently down as he was clattered by Puyol in the lead up to the ball going out of play.
Yellow Card Arribas
Free kick to Barcelona on the right-hand side. Pedro looks to curl a cross into the box but the ball bounces off the hand of Arribas. And, as as the rules in the Spanish Primera Division, he receives a yellow card.
De las Cuevas whips the ball in from the left-hand side and Llorente rises high to power a header towards goal. It took a deflection on the way over the bar and Osasuna get the corner.
The visitors have managed to get in some decent positions in the final third but the final pass, shot, or cross has let them down each time. They are showing plenty of ambition going forward, though. Fair play.
Yellow Card Adriano
Osasuna really shot themselves in the foot there! It was a fantastic pass from Xavi and glorious composure from Messi inside the box, but Fernandez gifted them possession with an awful kick.
Goal Lionel Messi
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!!! Andres Fernandez gifts the ball to Xavi with a terrible clearance, who slides a superb pass into the feet of Messi. The Argentine then majestically dances round the Osasuna goalkeeper before passing into the empty net! 1-0!
However, the visitors certainly have the quality to hurt Barca. Llorente, De las Cuevas, Cejudo; They are all dangerous in and around the box.
Osasuna have the fourth best defensive record in La Liga, which is a good thing as they will need to be doing a hell of a lot of defending tonight judging by the way Barca have started.
Wonderful play from Barca! Messi picks up the ball in the space between Osasuna's defence and midfield and curls a ball out to the left for Villa. The former Valencia man slides a cute pass into the centre for Thiago but Fernandez is on his toes and comes out to grab the ball. That would have been some goal!
Unlucky from Thiago! The Barca youngster juggles a long pass with a couple of fantastic touches and looks to burst through on goal but he is eventually crowded out by the Osasuna defenders. Fernandez comes out to claim the ball.
Interesting choice from Jose Luis Mendilibar this evening. The Osasuna coach has opted to start Joseba Llorente in attack this evening, with top goalscorer Kike Sola being benched. Perhaps they are looking for an aerial threat inside the Barca box?
We are under way at Camp Nou!
Los Rojillos have lost on their last four visits to Camp Nou at an aggregate score of 0-16.
Barcelona have won their last five home Liga matches with an aggregate score of 19-4.
Some worrying statistics for Osasuna fans coming up...
Osasuna (4-2-3-1): Fernandez; Bertran, Arribas, Flano, Nano; Lolo, Loe; Oier, Cejudo, De las Cuevas; Llorente.
Barcelona (4-3-3): Valdes; Alves, Puyol, Mascherano, Adriano; Xavi, Busquets, Thiago; Pedro, Messi, Villa
Osasuna gave Barca a bit of a scare in the last encounter between the sides in August. The Catalan side were a goal down with 10 minutes to go and had to rely on a Lionel Messi double to come out with all three points.
I'm Martin Macdonald, and I'll be taking you through the action this evening!
