Made some good saves in the first half, an instinctive stop from Steven Taylor's volley a particular highlight. Was unlucky to concede following a good save with his feet, and almost kept out the follow-up.
Struggled to deal with the tricky Gutierrez at times, and couldn't get close enough to block crosses from Ryan Taylor.
Dealt well with the high ball and defended solidly for most of the game as the Newcastle attack looked strong.

Was rather quiet on the right wing, but managed to deal with the dangerous Charles N'Zogbia well, restricting the winger to few attacking chances.
Played well for most of the match, but was too eager to try and grab the ball from Agbonlahor and lost out badly for the opening goal.

The winger was largely ineffectual, but showed some good skills and tied up Alan Hutton so that left-back Ryan Taylor could fire in some decent crosses from deep on the left.
His passing was effective as always, and shielded the defense very well, breaking up Villa attacks with ease.
Some very nice one-two's played, but the winger's crossing was inconsistent and underlined why Manchester United were willing to offload him.

A quiet game for the former West Ham striker, given little change by Collins and Dunne at the back, though he worked hard to put them under pressure and find space of his own.
