The overworked Pole had another busy night - and once again was not found wanting. Made a string of excellent reflex saves to restrict the Greeks to a single goal.
Showed his fondness for charging forward, highlighted by his persistence in scoring the second goal. But some of his positioning was poor and, at times, he looked like a left-winger playing at left back.
Arsenal's chronic defensive weaknesses proved contagious as even the normally reliable Frenchman made basic errors.
Looked a little flat-footed at times but made some excellent interceptions and led the back line well in the second half to limit the opportunities for the visitors. Appears to be growing into his role of defensive leader.
Lacked the energy to support the front three and be a genuine goal threat but his passing was tidy throughout and his experience was important in closing the game out.
Made on spectacular block on his own goalline in the first half and always did the simple things well. His vision ensured Arsenal had plenty of the ball in good positions.
Hit the top of the crossbar with a cross-cum-shot on a night when his contribution was initially fitful in comparison with the rookie Oxlade-Chamberlain on the other flank. But he was far more effective in the second half with his directness and strong running. Received a warm reception when he was subbed.
Showed far greater discipline than in his previous games for the club to justify his inclusion ahead of Coquelin. Made some important interceptions and his passing was simple but smooth.
Deployed at center half because of Arsenal's defensive crisis and it showed. Got caught out of position regularly early on, although he settled down as the game progressed. Created Oxlade-Chamberlain's goal with a fine 50-yard pass.
Demonstrated his intelligence and coolness with a brilliantly taken goal on his Champions League debut and second in two starts for the club. His speed, vision and trickery on the right flank was astonishing for one so young and inexperienced. Received a standing ovation when he was subbed.
Got into some excellent goalscoring positions with some clever movement but lacked sharpness in front of goal on a night when he could have registered a hatful.
His positioning was at fault for Santos' goal and, although he made some good saves, did not always look in full command of his box.
The left back was beaten all ends up by Oxlade-Chamberlain on a few occasions, although he was quite impressive going forward.
The former Aston Villa man was the first person to score in a competitive fixture at Emirates Stadium but did not have the happiest of nights. Guilty of allowing too much space to Arsenal's nimble attackers.
The right back demonstrated good positional awareness and won a series of important tackles and headers. Nearly scored a second-half equalizer with a brilliant left-foot curling shot that cannoned off Szczesny's crossbar.
Made some tigerish tackles but lived on his nerves at times and was susceptible to Arsenal's sharp counterattacks.
The diminutive No.7 pulled the strings for his team in the playmaker role with his excellent touch and fine range of passing.
Shot wide when presented with a great opportunity to give the visitors an early lead but made amends with his superbly directed header to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Struggled to assert himself in midfield and was unsurprisingly withdrawn midway through the second half.
Energetic display from the midfield anchorman, who ensured his team never ceded too much ground in the central acres.
Will wonder how he did not get his name on the scoresheet after his double-miss from point blank range early on and a brilliant save from Szczesny kept out his thunderous strike shortly before half-time.
Re-stationed from his normal center forward role to the left flank but demonstrated his versatility by troubling Sagna and launching a series of excellent long-range shots. Surprisingly subbed with 15 minutes left.
- 21 Ł. Fabiański
- 25 C. Jenkinson
Replaced Arshavin on the left flank and will be worried long-term about losing out to Santos for the left-back position.
- 39 F. Coquelin
Replaced Oxlade-Chamberlain to help Arsenal shore up the midfield.
R. van Persie
Given a huge reception from the home fans when he replaced Chamakh, no doubt in response to the worries about him putting contract negotiations on hold.
