Was almost caught out in the opening stages by an Adam Johnson shot that dipped towards the top corner, but got lucky as it flew just over. Otherwise solid from the number two keeper, but could do nothing about Aguero's calm finish.
A very good performance from the center back, did well to keep Dzeko quiet when the striker was in an advanced position. Won plenty of aerial duels with the striker as well.
Sometimes the best performances go unnoticed, and Squillaci, much like Toure in the other half of the field, kept it simple when on the ball and was solid defensively.
Kept Kolarov fairly quiet for his brief stay on the pitch, and did well when Nasri was switched to the left. Didn't get forward too much, but with Oxlade-Chamberlain playing it was a wise move so as not to leave gaps in behind.
Looked like it could be a long night for him as he was turned by Johnson early on, but recovered well and played some nice football when in possession before being replaced late on by Vermaelen.
Kept the ball well and was strong in the tackle. Didn't get outfought against a combination of De Jong and Hargreaves - an achievement for a player as young as he is.
Looked lively early on, though sometimes a little untidy. Brought a fabulous save out of Pantilimon on the half-hour and caused plenty of trouble for Zabaleta as the game progressed. Seemed to be the most likely source of a goal until Aguero's late winner.
Was the most senior player but didn't really have the impact he would have wanted creatively. He kept the ball well, but couldn't find a way through the City defense.
A close call between him and Oxlade-Chamberlain for the most impressive player on the pitch. He kept the ball well, put in some effective running and shielding, and found his way out of tight spaces very well.
A night to forget for the striker, who was abject throughout the game. His touch was lacking, and never really threatened to produce the goods.
Should have scored early on, but failed to get good contact on the ball. His shot still produced a spectacular save, but really should have had the net bulging. His best game so far in an Arsenal shirt though.
Made two fabulous stops in the opening half-hour, first at close range from Park and another from Oxlade-Chamberlain that was headed for the top corner. Was a little shaky in the second half with some punches and saves he could have caught, but his first-half contribution was telling.
Sometimes looked like the Arsenal attack was getting the better of him, and gave away a few cheap free-kicks, but played well in the second half.
Deployed on the left wing, and put in some good running and a couple of crosses but to no avail. Seemed to be tactically replaced after only 35 minutes, though wasn't playing particularly badly.
Dealt well with the pace of Oxlade-Chamberlain for much of the first half, but looked as if the task was becoming harder when the winger grew in confidence.
A relatively quiet game from the right-back, but covered well when Johnson was caught upfield.
A solid performance from the center back on the return to his former club. Spread the ball nicely and kept it simple.
N. de Jong
Won the ball back well for his team on occasion, but was somewhat overshadowed by his opposite number Coquelin. Dropped deep to help build from the back.
Was booed loudly and consistently on his return to the Emirates, and never really got going. Would be disappointed with his overall performance.
Was deployed alongside another defensive midfielder in De Jong, and the pair combined fairly well if not completely fluently. Had one shot from a central area as the ball fell to him, but skied it.
Hit a vicious shot that almost caught out Fabianski as it appeared to be dipping in, but brushed the net as it flew over. Played a nice flick to set up Aguero for the winner.
Showed some very nice passing over both short and long distances. Was very effective holding the ball up. His contribution to the goal was huge, taking the ball out and setting Johnson through with a wonderful pass to cap a solid performance.
- 24 V. Mannone
Came on for the last 10 minutes, but couldn't help Arsenal find a late goal.
- 40 C. Eastmond
- 53 O. Özyakup
- 56 N. Yennaris
Looked lively when he came on, and put in a dangerous ball that was well cleared with Benayoun attempting to get on the end of it.
Came on late, and didn't really have a chance to make a mark on the game.
- 12 S. Taylor
- 2 M. Richards
- 3 W. Bridge
- 44 K. Rekik
Came on to replace Hargreaves, and kept it tight for the visitors.
- 36 Denis Suárez
Wasn't too involved and looked to be bullied out of it until his late winner. He showed his true class and cool head to calmly slot the ball into the corner.
