Costa Rica

Ricardo La Volpe sticks with Josue Martinez in the attack alongside Joel Campbell. Also, Jose Cubero will start in the middle for David Guzman, who is suspended after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament against Bolivia.

  • Argentina sits in third place in Group A following draws against Bolivia and Colombia.
  • A win will clinch a spot in the quarterfinals for Sergio Batista's men.
  • The last time the South Americans failed to make it out of the group stage of the Copa America was in 1983.
  • With a draw, Argentina will remain in contention for a spot in the quarterfinals as a third place team but will have to await other results to discover its future.
  • A victory would see the two-time World Cup winners finish in second place in the group, sending them to Santa Fe to play the winner of Group C.
  • Costa Rica took down Bolivia 2-0 in its second match of the tournament and can now cement its participation in the quarterfinals with a victory or a tie.
  • La Volpe, who was born in Argentina, faced his nation of birth twice before in major competitions. As the coach of Mexico, La Volpe saw his team down Argentina in the 2004 Copa America in Peru. The 1-0 victory came thanks to a goal off a free kick by Ramon Morales. The next match took place at the 2006 World Cup. Argentina eliminated the Mexicans with a 2-1 victory in extra time as Maxi Rodriguez fired home the winning goal with a brilliant volley from outside the box.
  • Costa Rica hosted Argentina at the end of March in San Jose. The teams played out a 0-0 draw.
  • Campbell (pictured right) has scored zero goals in eight professional games for Saprissa. In five appearances with Costa Rica, the Saprissa youngster has two goals, including one in the Bolivia victory.
  • Martinez, Campbell's club teammate, also scored a goal against Bolivia.
