The keeper did not have an awful lot to do in the first half, but he swept up well at the back when it was needed. He was sent the wrong way by Xavi from the spot but commanded his area well.
R. van Rhijn
A mixed night for the right-back as he had some grea, and some difficult moments. He supplied a cracking assist for the opening goal but his sloppy pass to Veltman resulted in both his team-mate being sent off, and a penalty.
The Finland international read the game brilliantly and helped limit the amount of chances Barca had during the first half. As the game continued though he struggled to deal with the runs in behind from the opponents.
Made a good block to stop Fabregas' first-half shot from testing the keeper. He was put under undue pressure by Van Rhijn in the second half, though, and was dismissed for denying Neymar a chance to score.
A brilliant game from the left-back was cut short due to injury in the first half. He caused Puyol no end of problems with his daring dribbling and quick feet.
The midfielder put everything on the line for his side and was utterly tireless. He hounded the opposition continually and also pushed on to help support the forwards throughout the game.
Had a strong game in the middle of the park during the first half, breaking up the play and making some quality challenges. He was moved out to left-back following Boilesen's injury but continued in an effective manner.
An extremely energetic performance in midfield from the South African. He made a number of brilliant late runs into the box, one of which led to him scoring the opening goal. He also worked hard to close the opposition in the middle.
Provided a great cross for Fischer in the first half but blazed a great chance over the top later on. He had a fairly decent game but was sacrificed following Veltman's dismissal shortly after the break.
Pulled a decent save from Pinto in the first half with a well-struck volley. His shot also played a part in the second goal and he chased back regularly, putting in a good defensive shift for his team, too.
The striker performed excellently, holding up the ball well and linking with his team-mates impressively. He showed great desire to win the ball in the area and slide home Ajax's second goal of the night.
The veteran keeper seemed nervous from the opening moments when he sent a pass straight out of play for a throw in. He made a couple of good saves but should have parried Fischer's effort, which Hoesen pounced upon.
At times very hestitant in possession, which forced him to take a number of risks when passing the ball. He made a few too many errors, be it tackling late or positioning himself poorly.
Did not show an awful lot of cohesion with the rest of the defence. His erroroneous was punished by Ajax as they almost immediately followed up with their second goal. He did make some good interceptions, though.
Left Van Rhijn in far too much space and the right-back used it to supply the assist for Serero's opener. He did not get forward enough in the first half and he supplied very little from the left.
Was played out at right-back due to injuries but struggled to re-acclimatise to the position. He struggled with the pace of Boilesen before the Dane was withdrawn and his defending was poor in the concession of the first two goals.
Attempted to get his team playing their usual type of football and he proved to be a magnet for the ball when in possession. He was involved in Barca's best moments, but could not create anything meaningful.
The Cameroonian's control was often poor and it really needed to be better given the Ajax performance. He failed to track Serero's late runs through midfield, including the one that led to the opening goal.
Unable to get on the ball in midfield due to Ajax's quick pressing. This meant his impact on the game was limited early on, though he did put a few good crosses into the box. He scored a cool penalty early in the second half.
Did not drop off the front line to help link the play, as would be expected in his position. He had one decent chance that he failed to connect with and he cut a frustrated figure for much of the game.
Only really utilised his pace on a couple of occasions, which was not enough to really worry the Ajax defence. He did play a few great, teasing passes into the area but could have done more to help his team get a result.
The Brazilian was full of energy in the opening stages and pressed the opposition quickly. However, he failed to prove clinical when in possession in the final third.
