    Francisco Guillermo Ochoa

Was given little to do upon his return to the national team fold, and can hardly be blamed for his defense allowing Tejada a free hack at goal for the equalizer.

  • Hugo Ayala

    2.50

    Hugo Ayala

It was his failure to clear the ball that allowed Panama in to craft a goal.

  • Jorge Emmanuel Torres

    Jorge Emmanuel Torres

Did well for most of the game, but failed when it really counted, keeping Tejada onside

  • Miguel Arturo Layun

    3.00

    Miguel Arturo Layun

Did a decent shift coming up the flank to serve crosses, and Mexico's domination meant he was largely untested in defense.

  • Rafa Márquez

    3.00

    Rafa Márquez

Looked assured in the first half, like the on-field leader that Mexico has sorely been missing. Was rooted to the ground on Panama's equalizer.

  • C. Peña
    32
    27
    3.00

    C. Peña

Was active down the left flank, running at Cummings all night long, but wasn't as effective as his involvement might have suggested.

  • J. Aquino
    47
    19
    2.50

    J. Aquino

Put in an active but largely frustrating first half, and did well to force Cummings into conceding a penalty. Withdrawn in the second after an injury.

  • J. Zavala
    42
    11
    3.50

    J. Zavala

Did an excellent job working behind Dos Santos as Mexico dominated possession in the first half

  • Javier Hernández

    49
    2.50

    Javier Hernández

Was a dangerous presence in the first half with his movement, and did well to set up Peralta's goal. A terrible penalty in the second half.

  • O. Peralta

    O. Peralta

A fine strike to grab a vital goal for Mexico. Combined well with Chicharito all night.

  • Giovani dos Santos

    Giovani dos Santos

Mexico dominated possession, but its main creative spark was anonymous. Should have run the offense but went missing all game and was subbed out.

    Christian Giménez

Came on as a substitute and left it all on the field, literally shedding his blood for the cause with a head wound late in the game.

  • Fernando Arce

    Fernando Arce

Came on as a second-half sub for dos Santos.

  • R. Jiménez

    R. Jiménez Top of the Match

An absolutely career-defining strike. His fantastic bicycle kick might have saved Mexico's World Cup hopes.

  • J. Penedo
    12
    19
    3.00

    J. Penedo

Came up huge to deny Chicharito's penalty shot and keep Panama in the match. Could do little about either of Mexico's goals.

  • F. Baloy
    3
    20
    2.00

    F. Baloy

Often dominant in the air, he was shakier with the ball at his feet, and almost gifted Mexico a goal in the first half.

  • Luis Alfonso Henriquez

    22
    2.00

    Luis Alfonso Henriquez

Was slow to react as Chicharito nearly scored in the first half and then set up Peralta for the opener.

  • R. Torres
    0
    22
    2.50

    R. Torres

Marshaled the quieter of the two flanks on the night, although the whole Panamanian defense seemed on the verge of collapse for much of the game.

  • H. Cummings
    1
    28
    1.50

    H. Cummings Flop of the Match

Should have been sent off with a second yellow when he conceded a penalty with a last-man foul on Aquino. Was then at fault on Mexico's winner, giving Jimenez the space needed to get off his stunning overhead finish. His battle with Pena was one of the most intriguing story lines of the first half, and when on the flank, the right back generally acquitted himself well. Although not nearly enough to redeem a rough night.

  • A. Henríquez
    0
    20
    2.50

    A. Henríquez

Part of a Canaleros midfield that did little to cover itself in glory.

  • Quintero
    4
    17
    3.50

    Quintero

Was seemingly everywhere in the first half for Panama. On both flanks, offensively, defensively, he was physical and involved.

  • G. Gómez
    2
    19
    2.50

    G. Gómez

His usually powerful presence in the middle of the park was of limited impact as Mexico passed around all night, and was the first Panama player subbed off.

  • Aníbal Cesis Godoy
    0
    21
    2.00

    Aníbal Cesis Godoy

Was given plenty to deal with as Mexico dominated possession and movement.

  • M. Sánchez
    0
    20
    2.50

    M. Sánchez

Didn't do much to help Los Canaleros in the middle of the park, where he was generally kept quiet. Taken off in the second half.

  • B. Pérez
    1
    21
    3.00

    B. Pérez

Used his body well and did what he could with limited service, but was too often isolated as Mexico enjoyed so much of the ball.

Substitutions

  • J. Jiménez
    1
    19
    3.00

    J. Jiménez

Came on as a second-half sub for Sanchez, and Panama had a better second half than first.

  • Gabriel Torres
    6
    18
    3.50

    Gabriel Torres

Entered as a substitute and did what he was asked, picking out Tejada for Panama's goal.

  • L. Tejada
    12
    16
    3.50

    L. Tejada

Panama's all-time leading scorer almost earned his side a famous point with his goal. Exactly what you need from a substitute.
