    Tim Howard

Made some really good saves in the first half to keep the score level, including one from Beasley's plant leg. Kept Dos Santos and Reyes out as well. A clear advantage for the USA over Mexico between the pipes tonight.

  • C. Goodson

    C. Goodson

Came into camp late but fit into the team well. Looked comfortable defending in space and is always good in the air. Solid night for a guy who should be in the conversation for a regular starting spot.

  • DaMarcus Beasley
    51
    47
    2.50

    DaMarcus Beasley

Had one ball come off his back leg and nearly find his own goal, and was beaten down his side by Dos Santos a few times. Did get forward when he had the chance but the final ball wasn't there.

  • Fabian Johnson
    41
    44
    2.50

    Fabian Johnson

Asked to play out of position on the right and looked like he was out of position early on, but settled in well. Flashed a brilliant run in the first half, beating Salcido and winning a corner. Brought off at halftime.

  • Omar Gonzalez

    Omar Gonzalez

Really nice tackle after a sloppy giveaway from F. Johnson gave Mexico a chance to counter against him. He looked much more comfortable than he did against Costa Rica.

  • Alejandro Bedoya
    61
    18
    3.00

    Alejandro Bedoya

Picked up a booking late in the first half for a bad foul. Got down the right a bit better without F. Johnson overlapping in the second half, and did plenty of running to help out defensively.

  • Eddie Johnson

Eddie Johnson Top of the Match

Did very well to hold the ball up and combine with Dempsey. Got a good header on frame from a corner late in the first half and used his pace to win more than his share of balls. Got the goal to put the USA in front from another header.

  • Jermaine Jones
    87
    11
    3.00

    Jermaine Jones

Had a much better night with Beckerman beside him. Looked more at ease with his positioning and kept the ball well enough, even supplying a couple of very nice balls over the top.

  • Kyle Beckerman
    67
    32
    2.50

    Kyle Beckerman

Got lucky to escape a yellow early on for a poor tackle on Dos Santos, but sat in front of the back line and did what was asked of him.

  • Clint Dempsey
    61
    62
    3.00

    Clint Dempsey

Linked up well with E. Johnson and Donovan to create the two best chances of the first half from open play. Asked to play alone up top after E. Johnson came off and was very much in the fight all night. Got the smallest of touches to help slow the ball on Donovan's goal and won a penalty but put it past the post.

  • Landon Donovan
    126
    3
    3.50

    Landon Donovan

Ran the left flank and got involved plenty, supplying part of the link that was missing against Costa Rica. Had one chance to get the USA ahead in the first half but couldn't beat Moreno. Got the assist on the USA's opener with a well-placed corner. Got the USA's second with a tap-in.

    Michael Parkhurst

Came on for F. Johnson at the half and really didn't have much come down his side after he came on. He also didn't bomb forward as much as Johnson did.

  • Graham Zusi

    Graham Zusi

    Came on late.

  • M. Diskerud

Came on and set up the USA's second. What more could you ask?

  • J. Corona

    54
    2.00

    J. Corona

Great save from an E. Johnson header off a corner, but was way out of position for Johnson's goal early in the second half.

  • Jose Andrés Guardado
    8
    41
    2.50

    Jose Andrés Guardado

Not the dynamic playmaker tonight that Mexico needed him to be.

  • D. Reyes
    5
    43
    1.50

    D. Reyes Flop of the Match

Put a dangerous header in right at halftime, but was not able to keep Johnson from getting multiple headers on frame at the other end.

  • H. Mier
    5
    30
    2.50

    H. Mier

Was beaten down his flank on a few occasions and really didn't add enough going forward.

  • Héctor Moreno
    13
    25
    3.00

    Héctor Moreno

Held up well against Donovan in the 28th when he was asked to defend in space and was solid in keeping the U.S. forwards in check.

  • Christian Giménez
    26
    21
    3.00

    Christian Giménez

Dipped in and out of the right side and did a lot to help bring Dos Santos into the game. Brought off early in the second half.

  • C. Salcido
    4
    35
    2.50

    C. Salcido

Beaten a few times for pace by both Johnsons and misplayed a header, which led to the USA's goal from a corner.

  • Fernando Arce
    6
    30
    3.00

    Fernando Arce

Made life tough for the U.S. midfield and kept the ball moving well enough. Not overly dynamic but supplied his playmakers well.

  • J. Zavala
    10
    26
    3.00

    J. Zavala

Kept the ball moving well and helped keep Mexico in possession more often than not. A solid showing aside from a few sloppy passes.

  • Giovani dos Santos
    57
    21
    4.00

    Giovani dos Santos

Best player on the field for the opening 20 minutes, and clearly Mexico's best player on the night. Aside from Dos Santos, Mexico had very little in the way of creative play.

  • Javier Hernández
    9
    71
    2.00

    Javier Hernández

First real look was brought about by a good turn against Beckerman, but he was largely quiet with the service into him lacking.

Substitutions

  • Á. Reyna
    4
    27
    2.50

    Á. Reyna

Had a couple of flashes but wasn't able to supply the final ball that Mexico needed.

  • H. Herrera
    5
    28
    2.00

    H. Herrera

Came on early in the second half but really didn't do much to turn the tide and was arguably a downgrade from the player he was brought on for.

  • O. Peralta
    10
    26
    2.50

    O. Peralta

Brought on to try and spark a comeback, but couldn't help turn the tide.
