Goal.com breaks down the performers in David Beckham's last ever MLS game, a winning effort over the Dynamo.

By Zac Lee Rigg

  • Josh Saunders

    Josh Saunders

The Galaxy bailed out their goalkeeper in this final. Saunders made a series of nervy punches and poor clearances to keep his team under pressure. Also, he went down far too early for the Houston goal.

  • Tommy Meyer

    Tommy Meyer

The rookie defender played like a vet, keeping calm and putting in a solid shift in his first ever final. Los Angeles hasn't missed A.J. DeLaGarza during this playoff run, which is a huge credit to the maturity of Meyer.

  • Todd Dunivant

The left back calmly cleaned up any danger in the box and was the best performer in the first half.

  • Omar Gonzalez

Omar Gonzalez Top of the Match

The 6-foot-5 defender loomed as the player of the match. For a good chunk of the second half he won every header available in the Dynamo box. That aerial dominance led to the equalizer and an assist on a goal that should have stood.

  • Sean Franklin

    Sean Franklin

The right back had an iffy game and didn't push forward into the attack too much. However, he did hook away a chance from Kandji to save a goal in the second half.

  • Christian Wilhelmsson

    Christian Wilhelmsson

The Swede had a rough game. He struggled to get involved and at one point lost a header to 5-foot-5 Corey Ashe.

  • Juninho

    3.50

    Juninho

The Brazilian put in his usual hustling shift, stuffing several Boniek Garcia runs early. He picked up a knock midway through the second half, but it didn't prevent him from assisting the equalizer.

  • David Beckham

    David Beckham

Beckham's farewell match in MLS was a typical performance. He roamed around the midfield, often dropping very deep to pick up the ball, spraying passes around with ease. His set piece delivery created myriad chances, with Gonzalez finally tucking one away in the second half. In the second half he even popped up deep in his own box to execute a tackle.

  • Robbie Keane

    Robbie Keane

The Irishman came to life in the second half. His mazy dribbles terrorized the Houston backline. Plus, he scored two disallowed goals, one of which probably should have stood. Keane had his revenge, though, winning and scoring a late penalty.

  • Landon Donovan
    16
    19
    1.50

    Landon Donovan

The American international skewed a glorious chance wide in the 13th minute and continued to have an extremely quiet match. He scored the winning penalty to mask what was a subpar performance. The referee booked him for time wasting with barely any time left on the clock.

  • Mike Magee
    10
    6
    1.50

    Mike Magee

Mr. November couldn't translate his ripe playoff form into the Dec. 1 match. He missed an open header in the first half and his heavy touch ruined several attacks.

    Tally Hall

Hall pulled off a handful of solid saves, though he did hesitate to come off his line on several instances.

  • Bobby Boswell

    4.00

    Bobby Boswell

Boswell snuffed out many chances on the ground and in the air. Despite a positive game, he was left sarcastically applauding the referee for awarding a second penalty against his team.

  • Jermaine Taylor
    3

    3.50

    Jermaine Taylor

The Dynamo held a precariously high line and it didn't cost them too often because of the form of their central defenders.

  • Corey Ashe

    3.00

    Corey Ashe

The fullback submitted a solid performance on both sides of the ball.

  • Kofi Sarkodie

    Kofi Sarkodie

The right back had one good run in on goal that he toe-poked on target, but Saunders tipped it over. He made way for Ching with Houston chasing the game.

  • Brad Davis
    5
    1
    2.50

    Brad Davis

The storyline of last year's final was the absence of Brad Davis. Even in the game, Davis couldn't change history, with several sharp crosses all he could muster.

  • Adam Moffat

    3
    3.00

    Adam Moffat

The bearded Scot contributed key clog work in the middle of the field, helping Houston maintain the majority of the possession. His ball over the top broke down the Galaxy defense for the game's opening goal. Dominic Kinnear replaced him with a more attacking option when the Dynamo went behind.

  • Ricardo Clark
    3
    5
    2.00

    Ricardo Clark

The American international swept up things and imposed himself on the match early before fading badly. His handball gave up the penalty that Donovan scored.

  • B. García

    6

    B. García Flop of the Match

The Honduran had one of his quietest Dynamo games to date. He found his runs consistently snuffed out and couldn't get into the rhythm of the match.

  • Calen Carr
    6
    2
    3.00

    Calen Carr

Carr scored the opener, using his pace to break the offside trap and scoop the ball over Saunders at the near post. He later put a tame header on frame that Saunders blocked. As his influence waned he made way for Kandji.

  • Will Bruin
    3

    Will Bruin

Houston's top scorer didn't find the net when it mattered.

Substitutions

  • Macoumba Kandji

    Macoumba Kandji

Had some of Houston's brightest moments once he subbed in but couldn't change the scoreline.

  • Brian Ching

    Brian Ching

Came on for a cameo but couldn't affect the match.
