Sporting Kansas City secured the win, but it wasn't enough to keep the club's title hopes alive, with Houston advancing instead.

The Houston Dynamo went on the road Wednesday night with a comfortable lead over Sporting Kansas City and hung on to eliminate the East's top team despite a 1-0 loss.

Sporting Kansas City knew coming into Wednesday night's second leg Conference semifinal match, that the club would need a special showing to overcome a 2-0 deficit from Sunday's loss in Houston.

From the onset Sporting was on the attack, with forwards Kei Kamara and C.J. Sapong causing Houston all sorts of problems throughout the first half. In just the eighth minute Kamara fired a warning shot, smashing a header wide of the mark. Despite being flagged offside, it would be the beginning of a constant barrage of half chances for the home team.

Sapong was next in line, firing a shot right at Tally Hall after being played into a good position at the top of the box, and the forwards would continue to trade opportunities throughout the the opening frame.

Houston's defense, despite near constant pressure, held firm and the match went to the break still scoreless.

The second half began with much of the same, and the sings of frustration started to show, but on 64 minutes, Sporting finally got a goal, from an unlikely source.

Defender Seth Sinovic, who made it through the entire regular season and one playoff game without finding the net, found himself on the end of a Graham Zusi cross and pounded in a diving header. It was a nice move from Sporting to set the goal, with  Kamara playing Zusi in down the right and Sapong drawing defenders with a near-post run, and Sinovic's diving finish gave the team a well-deserved chance at getting back in the tie.

Sapong had a glorious chance to level the aggregate score in the 73. A Kamara cross, low and curling in behind the Houston defense, caught Bobby Boswell off guard. Sapong slipped in behind and looked a good bet to score, but Hall did well to shut down the angle and the forward could only put it over the top.

Sporting continued to lump balls into the box, but after Sapong's chance, and despite Hall touching the ball on more than a few occasions, Houston never looked out of sorts and hung on to clinch a spot in the Eastern Conference final.
