    Sergio Romero

There was not an awful lot for the Argentina keeper to do, despite the presence of Falcao for the opposition. He dealt with whatever was thrown at him capably but was not stretched by los Cafeteros.

  • Ezequiel Garay

    Ezequiel Garay

He was decent in the air but found the movement of Falcao difficult to track. He failed to display a suitable level of positional awareness as Colombia managed to get the better of him with simple passes along the deck.

  • Federico Fernández

    Federico Fernández

The Napoli center back coped well with the presence of Falcao, although he was drawn into a few unnecessary tackles by the Colombian. On the whole he was composed in the heart of defense.

  • M. Rojo

    M. Rojo

The left back struggled to cope with Zuniga as his communication with Montillo was almost non-existent at times as they afforded the Colombian too much space. He should have headed in the opener after 17 minutes.

  • Pablo Zabaleta

    2.50

    Pablo Zabaleta

Enjoyed a lot of freedom down the right flank during the early exchanges and nearly set up a fourth-minute opener. Defensively, he found Armero's pace difficult to cope with and this ended up restricting his game.

  • Ángel Di María

    3.00

    Ángel Di María

Pulled all the strings early on with a number of delightful flicks and brilliant passes. He created a number of opportunities for his team-mates but his influence faded in the second half.

  • Lucas Biglia

    Lucas Biglia

An uninspiring display form the Anderlecht midfielder as he was regularly bypassed in the center of the park. He was not quick enough to close the ball and thus allowed Colombia more possession than they should have been.

  • Walter Montillo

    Walter Montillo

It was a disappointing evening for the Santos man has he struggled to have any kind of positive impact on proceedings. He was sluggish in and out of possession and failed to provide much defensively when tracking back.

  • Javier Mascherano

    Javier Mascherano

The Barcelona player put in an impressive midfield display, showing off his passing ability with some searching balls up to the forwards. He hunted down the ball when not in possession and broke apart the play well.

  • Gonzalo Higuaín
    12
    8
    2.00

    Gonzalo Higuaín

The striker looked destined to score a goal as only a couple of top-drawer saves from Ospina kept him off the score sheet in the first half. But a clumsy challenge on the keeper earned him a red card in the 26th minute.

  • Sergio Agüero
    11
    9
    2.50

    Sergio Agüero

The Manchester City forward made some impressive runs in behind the defense but his timing was not always accurate and this saw him caught offside too many times. He did not get into enough goal-scoring areas.

Substitutions

  • Ezequiel Lavezzi

    2.00

    Ezequiel Lavezzi

Came on for Aguero in the 81st minute and hardly touched the ball.

  • Lionel Messi
    38
    24
    2.50

    Lionel Messi

Replaced Montillo in the 58th minute and instantly raised the crowd. Unfortunately he could not build upon that and failed to unlock the stoic Colombian defense.

  • D. Ospina
    11
    4
    3.00

    D. Ospina

The keeper made a number of very important stops in the first half, including two to deny Higuain from opening the scoring. He let it go to his head at times but ultimately was very solid.

  • Cristian Zapata
    5
    5
    2.00

    Cristian Zapata

It was an early end to the center back's evening as he was shown a red card after 26 minutes for kicking out at Higuain while the striker was on the ground. Up until then he had done OK and was punished for a moment of stupidity.

  • Mario Yepes
    6
    2
    2.00

    Mario Yepes

The veteran center back was easily exposed by a pass in behind but had an in-form Ospina to help bail him out. He could perhaps have used his experience to place himself better but remains Colombia's problem position.

  • Pablo Armero
    6
    1
    2.50

    Pablo Armero

Failed to advance down the left frequently enough to provide his team with natural width. He regularly let the ball run away from him and was exposed far too easily by Argentina in the opening stages.

  • A. Aguilar
    1
    5
    2.50

    A. Aguilar

Spent most of his time chasing the ball around the midfield without getting a chance to put his foot on it and play. He was uninvolved for much of the game and will be disappointed with his personal display.

  • A. Ramírez
    5
    1
    2.50

    A. Ramírez

Provided a lot of energy in the Colombian midfield, continually chasing up and down the park. His dynamism would have helped his team prove dangerous on the break had his distribution been better.

  • C. Sánchez
    1
    2
    2.50

    C. Sánchez

Gifted Higuain a fantastic opportunity to score in the first half and was lucky that Ospina managed to keep the Argentine out. Such mistakes were endemic in his game as he was at times sloppy in possession.

  • Camilo Zúñiga
    7
    1
    3.00

    Camilo Zúñiga

The right back's pace made him a continual thorn in the side of Argentina. He combined that speed with a delicate touch which saw him continually exploit the lack of communication between Rojo and Montillo.

  • James Rodríguez
    8
    2
    2.50

    James Rodríguez

A decent free kick early on was his only real contribution before being withdrawn due to injury in the 34th minute. Up until then he had seen very little of the ball.

  • Jackson Martínez
    4
    4
    2.00

    Jackson Martínez

It was a poor evening for the Porto forward. He did not get an awful lot of joy when moving out to the left, and his movement was never too threatening to the opposition. He was withdrawn at half time.

  • Radamel Falcao
    12
    5
    2.50

    Radamel Falcao

The striker somehow contrived to miss an absolutely excellent chance to score when he headed wide from six yards out in the first half. He did not find enough space behind the defense to show his deadly side.

Substitutions

  • L. Perea
    3
    3
    2.50

    L. Perea

Replaced Jackson Martinez at half time and slotted into defense. At times he was stretched but most of the time stayed cool.

  • Juan Cuadrado
    5
    2
    2.50

    Juan Cuadrado

Brought on for the injured Rodriguez after 34 minutes but was unable to provide a similar level of craft from midfield.

  • A. Mejía
    3
    4
    2.50

    A. Mejía

Came on for Aguilar on the hour mark but still left Colombia very stale in the middle.
