Goal.com was on hand to judge the performance of all those involved at Stade de France as Mathieu Valbuena starred for the host.

By Robin Bairner

  • Hugo Lloris

    Hugo Lloris

Might have expected to be unemployed all evening, but he was forced into a couple of very good first-half saves. Showed terrific reflexes when required, but was otherwise a spectator in a one-sided game.

  • Christophe Jallet

    Christophe Jallet

Called into the national side due to injuries to Mathieu Debuchy and Bacary Sagna, the Paris Saint-Germain player pushed forward with the same desire as his counterparts would have been expected to. Delivered some well-shaped crosses into the box.

  • Gael Clichy

    Gael Clichy

Perhaps a little muted in an attacking sense, yet when he did push forward he tended to make it count. Created a glorious chance for Benzema in the first half with a powerful solo run that deserved a better finish.

  • Mamadou Sakho
    21

    3.00

    Mamadou Sakho

A confident performance in the heart of the rearguard from the Paris Saint-Germain man, who was not troubled on any level by Vasadze until a lack of concentration from a cross allowed the goal to ultimately be scored.

  • Raphaël Varane

    3.50

    Raphaël Varane

One of two Frenchmen making their international debut this evening, the Real Madrid defender enjoyed a comfortable debut. Has looked accomplished in La Liga, and coped with the pressure of this occasion easily.

  • Blaise Matuidi
    24
    2
    3.50

    Blaise Matuidi

Has received great plaudits for his performances with Paris Saint-Germain all season, and this was another solid performance from the energetic midfielder. Won a good deal of ball in the center of the field.

  • Franck Ribéry
    49
    1
    3.50

    Franck Ribéry

Showed his potency with the ball at his feet as he cut in from the left and bent a shot against the bar with only six minutes on the clock. Although he was not always to the fore, he got the assist for Valbuena’s goal and drove home a third with a good finish. Replaced with quarter of an hour left.

  • Mathieu Valbuena

Mathieu Valbuena Top of the Match

An outstanding display. Scored a stunning shot into the top corner of the net immediately after the break. Also grabbed two assists, the second of which was a magnificent volleyed pass to Ribery. A truly decisive display.

  • Paul Pogba

    3.50

    Paul Pogba

The Juventus starlet made his international bow, and he made a confident start with the national side. Spread the play well and looked reassuringly calm in the center of the pitch. A very mature debut.

  • Karim Benzema
    34
    36
    2.50

Karim Benzema Flop of the Match

Much criticized in the lead up to this match, most notably for his refusal to sing the national anthem, the Real Madrid forward did nothing to endear himself to the crowd by missing a good 10th-minute chance. Scuffed another good chance wide before the break and then squandered a one-on-one in the second period and was jeered by the crowd.

  • Olivier Giroud
    51
    2
    3.50

    Olivier Giroud

Was the real spearhead to the France side and scored the opening goal with a clinical header. Held the ball up well and brought others into play, creating a fine early chance that strike-partner Benzema spurned. Managed to get in behind after 30 minutes, but his lofted finish was too high and was greeted by whistled from the fans.

Substitutions

    Moussa Sissoko

Brought power to the midfield during his cameo and looked to get forward where possible.

  • Loïc Remy

    2.50

    Loïc Remy

Came on for Valbuena midway through the second period but failed to really add anything.

  • Giorgi Loria
    8
    2
    3.00

    Giorgi Loria

Got a hand to Giroud’s header but realistically could not be blamed for France’s opening goal, prior to which he had never seriously been tested. Beaten by a fierce Valbuena shot in the seconds after the restart. Made a couple of fine saves from Benzema.

  • Alexander Amisulashvili
    7
    2
    3.00

    Alexander Amisulashvili

Had the visitors’ best effort of the first half when he managed to head powerfully towards goal, but he was denied by a smart reaction save from Hugo Lloris. Moments later he was caught out as Valbuena launched a long ball over his head to create a chance for Giroud.

  • Davit Kvirkvelia

    1
    2.50

    Davit Kvirkvelia

Charged with the job of stopping Valbuena down the right, it was his crude challenge that led to the free-kick from which the home side opened the scoring. Failed to pin down the Marseille man, but he was not solely responsible for this.

  • Guram Kashia
    5
    1
    2.50

    Guram Kashia

A difficult game in the center of the defense. Failed to match the movement of Benzema at times and rarely managed to steal the ball from Giroud. Did not make any crucial slips, but at the same time he did little to ease the pressure on his side.

  • Ucha Lobjanidze
    7
    1
    2.50

    Ucha Lobjanidze

Had a testing evening against Ribery on the right of the Georgian defense but delivered a wicked cross from which the visiting side managed to grab a consolation goal midway through the second period.

  • Zurab Khizanishvili

    5

    Zurab Khizanishvili

The veteran used his experience to take up some good positions, but his aging legs let him down at times. Was beaten easily by Ribery after six minutes, when the Bayern Munich man hit the bar, and in the second half he was not given a second let off after being bamboozled.

  • Aleksandre Kobakhidze

    1
    3.50

    Aleksandre Kobakhidze

Unleashed a stunning effort from just outside that box in the first half that required an outstanding save from Lloris. Was one of his side’s most meaningful attacking threats and pounced on a loose ball in the box to reduce their arrears.

  • David Targamadze
    7
    1
    2.50

    David Targamadze

Delivered a fine first-half cross from which Amisulashvili nearly profited but struggled to produce anything else of note down the right. Caught dallying in possession more than once.

  • Zhano Ananidze
    7
    4
    2.50

    Zhano Ananidze

Georgia’s great hope, he failed to offer anything in this encounter and was replaced after 45 disappointing minutes.

  • Murtaz Daushvili
    5
    1
    2.50

    Murtaz Daushvili

Used the ball in a measured fashion for the visitors, but although he was largely solid with his passing, occasionally under pressure he would make a crucial error in a dangerous area.

  • Mate Vatsadze
    8
    1
    2.00

    Mate Vatsadze

Got little change out of the back line of the home crowd. Even on the one occasion he did escape Sakho’s clutches, it was largely because he took such a bad touch it caught out the center back. Had a half chance from a corner, but glanced it wide, then allowed Giroud to escape his marking for France’s opening goal.

Substitutions
