Republic of Ireland welcomes Germany to the Aviva Stadium on Friday 12 as both sides continue their respective bids to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Giovanni Trapattoni's Boys in Green have had to cope with a series of injuries, with first-choice center back pairing Richard Dunne and Sean St Ledger unavailable for selection, while striker Kevin Doyle had to pull out of the squad due to a groin problem, Glenn Whelan is also out injured, and captain Robbie Keane is out as well with a fresh Achilles injury.
Joachim Low will be without several key members of his squad, too, with captain Philipp Lahm serving a suspension and first-choice center back Mats Hummels missing through injury. Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has an ankle concern and is unlikely to start the game, while there are also concerns about the fitness of Mario Gotze.
Germany has won its opening two qualifiers, defeating Faroe Islands and Austria 3-0 and 2-1 respectively. Ireland will look to build upon its opening 2-1 victory against Kazakhstan.
| DID YOU KNOW? |
- Ireland's last competitive home defeat came two years ago in October, 2010, when the Boys in Green succumbed to a 3-2 loss against Russia.

- Since their dismal Euro 2012 display, the Boys in Green have fallen 10 places in the FIFA ranking table to 28, despite being unbeaten in subsequent fixtures.
- Ireland has qualified for just three World Cups since 1934, most recently in 2002, when it was drawn in a group with Germany.
- Remarkably, Germany has lost just two of its 76 World Cup qualification matches, with neither of those defeats occurring away from home.
- Germany has qualified for every World Cup since 1954, getting to the final on seven occasions and winning the competition three times.
- With 64 goals, Miroslav Klose (pictured, right) is just four goals away from matching Gerd Muller's record of 68.
